I’m thinking of joining the Marine corps once I graduate high school in 2025

Are we supposed to wear the garrison cover (piss cover) or the barracks cover or does it matter?

I remember when my brother graduated and I was in the truck with my uncle who was in the navy and he was wearing a shirt that said “the only good Marine is a submarine.” And the mps at the gate made him get out the truck and put him in the front leaning rest position.

I was a contract PFC but it was really a waste of time.. I get it though you want to get promoted fast but to be honest you cant really get ahead until you do many years in the fleet. Private PFC or LCpl makes no difference just get used to the fact your bottom of the barrel henchman. Nothing wrong with those ranks at all though! My time as a PFC was some of the best times ever!

Marines don’t do “basic training.” They do Boot Camp.

When you talk about promotions are more difficult, your right. But the Marines expect leadership at lower ranks. When we'd deal with other branches, e-3's in the Marines quite literally have responsibility that youd often see an e-5 in other branches. This isnt every mos, but in my experience there were much different expectations from the same rank outside the Marines.

I bet that sushi and Ramen got gross. I'm Italian and when I went to Italy I was so sick of pasta. But alot healthier and not corporate. But honestly our Italian is better

I hit the fleet two weeks short of turning 21yo. Even at 21 and not being that far apart from the average 18-19yo boot, it was still difficult to relate to them. Now being 25+ even if you’re single, that’s even worse. All the Marines except for two I met in the fleet who were over 24 when they hit the fleet, they all did their four and got out and saw it as a waste of time. The older you get, the less you believe the bs from the Marine Corps. When I was a recruiter, I made sure I explained and emphasized to any polee who was over the age of 22 the cons of joining the Corps. I did the same to the 18yo polees who said they were going to do 4-8 years and then do the college experience with their GI Bill benefits. I emphasized going to college after the Marines is a great idea but at that point he will be considered too old for the college experience most 18-19yo freshmen fresh out of high school experience.

Pros: Free housing, free health/dental/vision insurance, free chows, discounts everywhere, GI bill, VA mortgage loans, camaraderie, looks good on your resume once you get your DD214. The best military uniforms: dress blues. The DBs make the ugliest Marine look mildly interesting lol. Cons: Toxic leadership, terrible living conditions, mediocre food, being treated like a child, micromanaging, things that make no sense such as field day, undesirable base locations (except for Camp Pendleton), mostly wearing cammies and not deltas, charlies, etc.

I would think that killing women and children without question as to why would make many people re-consider their decisión to join a military that has not been used in defense in almost 100 years. The USA and Isreal military is responsible for more civilian death than all other militaries on earth combined. I guess many folks have no soul and for these men Hoo Rah.

Easy answer to everything you were issued in boot camp! 2 pairs of jeans and 3-5 shirts. And your phone. Optional an extra pair of shoes and maybe some sweats to lounge about in. I'm thinking about joining the Marines Reserves. The plan is to come back, go to college and work a part time job while being a reservist. I'm thinking about doing Logistics or Supply as my MOS because I am going to school for Supply Chain Management. FAFSA and GI bill will be paying for school. They do pay for my school right? Any suggestions? Or advice? Is it even worth joining?

Can you get BAH if you join as a reservists?

I wanted to ask I’ll be checking in 21st if this month but thanksgiving is like days later so will they make us stay or try to force us to go home. And would I get leave for Christmas since I’ll be graduating in dec 23 or will they want us to go to our schoolhouses
