So, is the hooding/pinning ceremony different from the commencement ceremony? Do students get hooded the day prior to graduation? Are hooded students allowed to wear their hoods during the graduation? I'm asking for myself. I'll be graduating from the Master's program in May 2025.

That's hilarious. A mascot gets all the attention and we only got a glimpse of the marching band and heard nothing. Why was the float an egg? Oh because the Buccaneers are Shipwrecked in the Appalachian Mountains so they don't have a ship. Why aren't they called the Mountain Men?

Marching Bucs mom here. First you didn’t even go to ETSU so I will forgive your ignorance. There was no float. That’s a lighted decoration on the campus. The college is very proud of their band. They have posted several videos already about this huge historic trip for the college. Being the first college from the state of Tennessee to march Macy’s in 60 years! The president of the college personally buys pizzas and delivers them to the band every game because he knows how hard they work. The band was in the video marching as well as the majorettes and color guard performing on stage at Radio City Music Hall as an opening act for the Rockettes. This was the Holiday Video from the college to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. So in the season of the holiday Merry Christmas from East Tennessee and I hope you find some joy in the coming year. Because you sound very sad.

@@lindamwakely I am very sad. King Herod had all the baby boys murdered because of The New King. Besides, Jesus wasn't born in the winter. I celebrate His Resurrection everyday but, it's Not Easter, it's Passover. Why Bucs?

@@Elohimists There are a couple of theories on how ETSU chose a Buccaneer as its mascot. One theory relates to a pirate legend. Supposedly, there is an underground river near the university called Pirate Creek. Legend has it that this underground river once flowed all the way to the ocean. Legend further has it that pirate Jean Paul LeBucque used this underground river to hide / store his treasures and that an earthquake buried him and his crew. Whether the tale holds any truth or not, it was enough of a local legend to lead ETSU's student body to select a Buccaneer as its mascot. There is also a more simple explanation. ETSU started out in 1911 as a school to train teachers; and it wasn't until about a decade into its existence that it formed a football team. Around then, they held a poll to select the school mascot; and for whatever reasons known only to the students who voted for it, "buccaneer" won the vote.

@@Elohimistsdid you watch the parade? Why are you so worried about our mascot being a Buccaneer? It has a reason and a history. Geez.

@@kensilvers4313 Please tell me why they chose Pirates for a mountain region. I would like to know because I am also shipwrecked in the Appalachian Mountains. God has a great sense of humor.

The destruction continues as CSX exacts retribution on the river itself for wrecking its rail bed. Their surface mining activities have destroyed Chestoa Recreation Area - a formerly favorite natural park in Cherokee National Forest and a mile from the first wrecked rail. Unnecessary and a slap in the face to the people of Erwin TN.

In south Louisiana we had our share of Hurricanes. What we don't have is mountains which amplified the effects of all that rain y'all received. All that rain coming down from those mountains created a disaster unlike anything anyone has ever seen before. Whole landscapes have changed or disappeared all together. It's so heartfelt sad to see all those videos. A lot of prayers for everyone.

I grew up watching the News with my mom and seeing the Mississippi floods and so on. What I didn't get was why the farmland and homes where the only thing that flooded until I watched a documentary about flooding and found that it was the city's on the other side of the river that was at fault for the flooding in the first place. Look it up. The city would build a barrier taller than the other side so the city would not flood. Just the farmlands and homes on the other side.
