The amount of deep sleep (REM) in horses lying down is not as long as you mentioned. Total sleeping time in horses per 24 hour period, both standing and lying down, is about 2 hours.

Sleep deprivation in horses is the human's fault. Completely preventable.

I also use a left over tub from something like yogurt etc. I use paper towels or dried up hand wipes (always end up having some dried out left over), then just toss them. I usually wet the area gently first to let soften the area of any gunk first before trying rubbing. Be gentle, as he says. When doing the nose, then I usually tell them "Nose nose" to warn them. They learn quickly. My horse used to be very jumpy about stuff approaching his eyes, but with clicker training he learned quickly & now is very trusting and patient. It's good to teach a horse to allow adding eye drops before needed, if a horse has an injury requiring medication (btw). Never self medicate an eye & call your vet! -- Love the Icie!

He probably owns a farrier school and wants everyone to PAY $$ dearly to go through HIS SCHOOL. I've seen and worked with Certified Journeyman Farriers who have sored horses, lame horses, and did some harsh shoeing to get the horse correct. This guy is an i-diot and just because you go to a school doesn't mean you know your craft. I left farrier school with just enough to be smart but learned my EDUCATION as an apprentice from a 50 year farrier. I still learn my craft today all the time. If your a horse owner, then learn some things about trimming and angels and feet. Work with your farrier vs not being educated. This guy has no "CLUE" what he's talking about. We do not need Government control or opinionated people like this guys because we all know what OPINIONS are like, and everyone has a stinky one, and this guy has one.

NO NO NO..that is not a safe method. THE ONLY safe method is to use a GFI outlet. PERIOD> anything else can result in injury or death.

The difference depends on what version you want to hear. The short version is, The horse shoer is happy when the job is done. The farrier is not happy until its done right, for the horse.
