It depends on the auction. Some require you to be a dealer, but anybody can attend and buy at most auctions that sell government cars. This one handles most of the government cars for Florida. Yes, they do look very similar. I had a 2014 Explorer and it seemed to be shorter, but I'm not sure. I will have to look at them side-by-side like you said to really see the differences. @@Michael_J_M14 I agree that some of the cars may have been driven too hard or have a lot of idle time, but this one wasn’t a patrol car, so I don’t think it has excessive idle time. I bought 2 Florida Highway Patrol cars and drove them for years with zero problems. But I pay a little more to get the best car at the auction.

Info for this auction is at tmauction.com. The next auction is Saturday (1/11), all on-line. Lately, the prices have been running high at this auction, but sometimes you can find a deal. The government cars/trucks I've bought have been in very good shape and they list what's wrong, if anything, pretty well. I would not by a private vehicle from this auction, but that's just me. They usually have Silverados there, but I'm not sure if they do now. Another place that has some Florida gov surplus trucks are at publicsurplus.com. Good luck!

@@AndréSlayer77 I agree. The prices used to be a lot lower at this auction before they went on-line only and before the increase in car prices. One good thing I can say from experience about “some” of the state of Florida cars (I’ve bought a few from FHP, FDLE and FWC) is they have been in excellent condition with very low miles, one with 33k. They were all about 5 to 7 years old. I drove them for years and sold some for more than I paid.

No, not that many deals. I did buy a police 2021 Ford Explorer at this auction for 5 to 7 thousand under retail, but I had to watch/bid for a few months to get that one. I bought several state cars/trucks a few years when the prices were much lower. They have all be very good cars.

Modified Toyota LandCruiser. These are older models before they went city SUV soft road. These older models where extremely popular in the mining industry and agriculture for their out of the box relative toughness and reliability. Anyone claiming they are junk has not got a clue.

Yes, I don't understand how people can pay pretty much retail for a vehicle that is as-is and you can't have it checked out before you buy. With that said, I did get a pretty good deal on a 2021 Ford Explorer at the November auction. That will be in the next video.

He said, "No deals on those items." Oddly, they sell for high prices, too. It seems to me that we're taking on so much risk that the prices need to reflect this risk.

@@JohnDoe-hy5ho I agree. We are taking on a LOT of risk buying these cars and other items as-is, but as long as people pay the high prices, they will continue to go too high. As far as this particular auction, there are two bidders, that often bid against each other, that buy 10, 20 or 30 of the best cars and are bidding whatever it takes to win the bid, sometimes retail and even over retail prices. I don't understand that.

Exactly! The State of Florida cars I've bought at auction (two 5.0 Mustangs, Crown Victoria, two Explorers, an F-150 4x4 and a Malibu. I got them all at a very good price and drove them all for years only putting tires and batteries in them. I still have the F-150 and Malibu. Sold the rest a few years later for what I paid for them. It's a good deal if you know what you are doing.

Although now the price people are paying, even for wrecked vehicles and junk it’s getting pretty bad. I haven’t seen too many great deals since the online only auctions started

My son bought a retired FHP cruiser and other than new shocks and a starter, been driving it daily for 5 years. Although some of these vehicles have had a hard life, they are maintained whenever they break down. So many have a lot of life left in them.

Went to this auction like 15 years ago from Miami. Did buy something but wasn’t what I had expected.

@@SA-rs5pl They were much more fun back then, when you placed your bid by raising your hand or nodding in person at the auction site. And, the prices were much better! The two Florida Highway Patrol Mustangs I bought ('87 and '89) were cheap and man were they fun to drive! I sold both a few years later for what I paid for them.
