Man I am having such a hard time deciding between whether to get this of the Flyingiron BF 109 first. Being a Brit the Spitfire is the natural first choice and the plane I was obsessed with as a kid, but the BF 109 looks and sounds so authentic too that it's stiff competition. I'll inevitably have to grab both, just gotta decide which to nab first.

you cracked me up about the placard on the auto pilot. I am a A&P (mech. want to be pilot ) in the states and had the pleasure of working on a Fairchild PC-6. I absolutely love this aircraft.

Question, Re:- Flyingiron Sims SPITFIRE MK IXC latest update >> 1.4.1 >>>>>>>> The version shown here may be >>> 1.4.0 however I am not sure as It does not state the version ref numbers. Why does it in the version 1.4.1 dump you & say you have overstressed the aircraft if you open the canopy at low speeds, speeds you could open it before in the other versions? I always thought it was correct to take off with the canopy open only to shut it when happy & in control of a stable aircraft. Also I always do a curved final for a better vision of the runway.

WTF 😲 that was almost better than the real-life stuff. Was that an F14 barrel rolling mid way through? Only thing missing was the sound of camera shutters going off. Brilliant stuff Jon 👍

that long howl sound is the so called doppler effect that must be adjusted on cone and also direction and distance propagation and the starting sound direction well lots need to be double checked this is what I believe this is

Still not prefect especially on fly bys it sounds electric on flybys which is I guess when they have tryed to incorporate the whistle effect the spitfire has when flying past at a high speed but it’s completely wrong in the sim

I get what you're saying there is something not quite right but it is a huge improvement on the last and possibly the best sounding warbird out right now. I flew with some friends, we did a closing pass and I honestly ducked

In the real aircraft you'd spend as little time as possible with the boost at zero or less, it can foul the plugs. It's one reason why pilots during WW-2 would land off a break, the hard 180 turn entering downwind bled the speed off ready for gear and flaps despite the boost staying above zero. The finals turn is one long curve to maintain the best view you can get of the runway. Probably you know this, so I just wasted the effort writing it :-))) I bought the Flyingiron Spit as soon as it released, but the takeoff behaviour was really odd back then. I've flown a MKIX motion simulator that was built for the purpose of converting pilots onto the real thing, so I had a reasonable clue how the Spit should behave. With the FlyingIron version the tail just seemed to snap up almost violently at about 60 mph without any user input at all. They've obviously tweaked that going by your video. In flight it does seem very Spit like ( I've also flown a real MKIX, although obviously no takeoff or landing ) I'm almost tempted to reinstall MSFS after watching your video but the constant forced updates were just really getting on my nerves.
@wollyxl
@wollyxl Жыл бұрын
You should reinstall MSFS if just for the spitfire, running the boost below 0 is unavoidable as it spends a lot of time down there taxing the main issue there is preventing boiling the coolant I do get what you mean with the long approaches this was mainly for those who don't have the confidence to do a turning approach

I'm flying this aircraft in MSFS now. I learned a few things from your video, such as not forgetting to put the cutoff/mixture control into high idle before takeoff. Actually I've only started on the runway so the simulator already had the aircraft running but not in high idle. It took a while to realize that BETA comes on automatically at idle throttle and below 100 knots. Some advised almost never touching the prop control as it will seek about 2,000 rpm on it's own but I suspect you want it feathered during start for less drag on the engine. I liked your use of the prop lever during taxi as I find the brakes on the weak side -- not sure if this is actually the result of a significant amount of thrust even at idle on the power lever. I tried some 3-point takeoffs I'd seen in videos, where all 3 tires leave the runway at the same time. This "may" reduce the tendency to yaw radically when the tail lifts but in my case the wheels starting squeaking as they tried to leave the ground and it would lift off too close to stall speed. I've retweaked my joystick rudder sensitivity and it seems a bit easier to keep on track now with normal takeoffs.
@wollyxl
@wollyxl Жыл бұрын
Yeah the POH talks about leaving the prop at 2000rpm and almost all PT6 engines require you to feather the prop at shut down 1 because it would take a long time to spool down and the other is to prevent it from windmilling in brisk winds.

What are the required electrical devices that must be turned on before the engine is started And the generator activated ...If you are starting the aircraft with it's own batteries this becomes a concern.
@wollyxl
@wollyxl Жыл бұрын
If you watch the video you will hear me Explain why both avionics is turned on. Also generators don't function without the engine running the generator is part of the ancillary gearbox on the engine
@indianrockstrat
@indianrockstrat Жыл бұрын
@@wollyxl I now realize that in this model the engine instruments critical to startup are not visible without powering the glass screens. I definitely know how generators work which is why I thought some things should not be turned on until after engine start and generator operating. Perhaps today many lights don't draw as much current as in the past so not a huge factor in taking battery current away from the starter motor etc. ( and rotating beacon is now either required or strongly suggested before the prop moves )
