Is that equation with two struts on each side, or one strut on one side?
@vb9300Күн бұрын
I bet I have a unique circumstance that may need your assistance on what kind, length and newtons and all the other goodies explained in this video that doesn't apply to lifting a lid or hood. Maybe you could figure this one out if you have the time. Get in touch.

Well, I tried following the instructions and failed spectacularly. My hatch is 20.375" high when open. I was using a strut that is 10" fully extended, so just under 50%. Check. I positioned the strut so that the lid opens to just over 90 degrees, attaching the strut 5" up from the hinge point, just under 25% of the way up. Check. When I tried to close the lid, I get to about 45 degrees and, at that point, the strut is fully collapsed. The lid won't close any farther. Obviously, I can see the problem, but I don't know if there is a solution. The lid is around 5 lbs. I can't get a longer strut without overpowering the lid.

That's a really helpful information, can you please help me out if the door has slight bend (170degree) just below the half of its height? In that case does the calculations remains same?
@diycast69144 күн бұрын
Thank u for the excellent detailed tutorial. Would these same principles apply to a lid that your are opening tilting from a flat surface such as a solar panel? I mounted these to my 96"x52"' solar panel but bolted the bracket to the panel on the opposite end like in a "rollover application" (16 inches down the solar panel opposite to the hinge side) and now the panel is frozen stuck in the open titled position with zero movement....any ideas?

I've been searching for the perfect video to help me choose the right gas spring for my custom Murphy bed, and this is by far the best one I've found. Even manufacturers often make it too complicated for the average person to understand. Many know how to do it, but only a few can teach it as clearly as you. You're an excellent teacher who explains everything slowly and in a way that's easy to grasp. Thank you so much for this amazing video! I I've subscribed to your channel and look forward to more great content.

So something that nobody seems to address is whether and/or how gas strut strength is adjusted for single vs dual struts. For example he needed a 30N strut strength here, but is that total or per strut? I'm assuming he got TWO struts of that strength as one strut held the door fine, so when he installed both struts were they combined too much for the application? Should each strut have been 15N using dual gas struts? Or vice versa if using only one strut would you need a strut twice as strong (60N)?

Excellent videos Oscar. Learn something new every day. T hank you. I'm admittedly being a bit lazy here but, you provided both 'lbs and metrics' for each step... (thank you) - except for when you discussed the ratio to calculate the force needed of the strut. 1kg = 10 neuton. What would this be in lbs and lb/ft?
@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF25 күн бұрын
Well 1kg=2.2lbs if you divide 10 by 2.2 than you know what the force per lbs is. Cheers

Thanks for the great video. If we install two struts should we divide the weight of the door by two and then select the Force for each strut ? Eg. 3kg/2=1.5kg x 10=15 Newtons

Brilliant Video! What compound did you use in between the truck chassis and the subframe? Was it a form of silicone to help with vibration and harmonic dampening? Thanks!
@oscaroverlander_MB1222AFАй бұрын
What you may have seen was a type of grey gummy tape, it was not applied by me, it was already on the frame. Used between the chassis frame and the utility box frame of the fire truck. In reality you don't need anything between the chassis frame and the subframe, metal on metal only paint, powder coating or zinc between is the right way to do it. Cheers

First of all thanks for all these informations. A normal human must be thousand years old to have all these knowledge. I want to ask that how did you close the space between outer frame and inmer frame? On this video the insulation between the frames is not covered yet. How did you manage that? Thank you
@oscaroverlander_MB1222AFАй бұрын
Hi thank you for the question, but yes you can see how I covered the insulation in this video. Stop the video at 8:17 min and you see the waxed birch plywood strip between the two frames. Cheers and jeees I am not that old 😉

My trap door is 32.5 inches tall. It weighs 25 pounds. If I only want to use one, do I order two that are for 50 lbs but only use 1 to get 25 lbs?
@oscaroverlander_MB1222AFАй бұрын
A strut for 50 lbs will open your door very fast, because it is strong, has more force than you need. A 25lbs strut should open your door but maybe too slow, here you should try a slightly stronger one maybe 30-40lbs. Good luck
