/At 7 pm a main hatchway gave in and he said...fellas its been good to know ya...does anyone know where the love of God goes when the waves turn minutes into hours? So simple yet so profound

"And later that night when his lights went outa sight, came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". For anyone that has put to sea, that line sends chills up your spine. Every time you hear it.

Years ago my older brother and company were having dinner at a Duluth restaurant. They noticed a gentleman sitting by himself. They asked him if they could join him. He readily agreed. The man was Gordon Lightfoot. He was an absolute gentleman and a fascinating conversationalist. My brother called that evening well spent and an extraordinary opportunity. RIP, Gordon Lightfoot.

Phoenix, Az 1976 ish, Gordon Lightfoot concert at Veterans memorial coliseum. Very minimal band support. Mostly him on a stool with that trusty 12 string. He could surely deliver a story. We're lucky to have that music.

Evan though I was born after the wreck of the EDMUND FITZGERALD and I mean way after in the late 80s my dad would play the song but I never knew it was based on a true story and I thought it was just a song but I did the research and it's giving the song a whole new meaning for me.

I read that when Mr. Lightfoot passed away that they rang the bell again. Instead of 29 times but 30 times ..... Adding that extra ring for Gordon Lightfoot. Mr. Lightfoot gave all his royalies of this song to the families of those who perished on the Edmund Fittzgerald.

I had hoped someone would make a song for the US cargo ship El Faro that sank in 2015 off the coast of Jacksonville, FL. This song has always stayed with me because of the sailors who went down with their ship. Shalom

I can absolutely understand this kind of stuff happening on the open ocean but on a lake I know it gets wicked I know it gets wild and deadly but why the hell did they not dock I really don’t understand. The lakes are big the great lakes are huge yes but they would’ve had plenty of time to get to one side or the other and dock is corporate greed is what made this happen and stubbornness because captain wanted to have this delivered. Our great lakes are big as fuck yes but it’s not open ocean. They could’ve got to safety before it got that bad.

I remember that day as if yesterday, My mother and I cried all day and night. Mom knew a large number of the crew. This was a very bad time for all the mariners who rode the lakes. R.I.P. May God keep you in his arms.

This ship went down two years before I was born. I remember hearing this song over the years as I grew up not fully understanding what it meant but now knowing what it means it’s very haunting and yet very powerful song to remind us that life is so precious. Just like the Titanic people never think that such a big ship would never flounder and yet God proves us so very wrong!. We are nothing but a speck on this Earth and we are here to leave our mark that we were here. But not every person will be remembered. One day these people will be forgotten as will Gordon Lightfoot. Only thing that ever truly survives is stone and even that changes over time.
