Gina, you are RIOTOUSLY funny. Absolutely brilliant in your comedy. I remember day 1 of quarantine like it was yesterday. I was lucky enough to have moved to a VERY TINY, VERY RURAL small town in Northeast Michigan, USA. While we, too, went through Charmageddon 2020 here, it reached us a bit later than the more populated parts of the world. The day BEFORE day 1 of lockdown, my mom went to Wal Mart and did a big grocery run. What she didn't realize was that I was literally out doing the same thing. I swear to you, I hit up 4 different places to round out the whole trip. I went to Meijers (essentially, it's Wal Mart but with a different name and run by different people) and got like 4 separate 30 packs of toilet paper, I got 3 separate 20 packs of toilet paper at Wal Mart, my mom got a 4th at Wal Mart on her own. I got about 10 cases of bottled water on top of the 2 my mom brought home, along with 4 more 8 packs of toilet paper and 4 more 4 packs of T.P., I stopped with the TP after that. However, I also got ALOT of different varieties of meat, in bulk quantities, alot of frozen veggies, I had the pantry overflowing with canned goods, baking supplies, breakfast stuff, etc... I further stocked both the kitchen freezer and the standing deep freezer in the garage. Lastly, I went to the drugstore and got ALOT of stuff like band aids, neosporin, an absurd amount of rubbing alcohol, spray Lysol, lysol wipes, hand sanitizer galore, multiple bottles of dayquil and nyquil, half a dozen packs of cough drops, alot of benadryl.... basically everything first aid / medicine cabinet related that you could get over the counter, a crap-ton of dog and cat food, and a bunch of snacks and such. Again, all in bulk. I racked up an absurd bill for all of this, and my mom lost her cool at first. Everyone thought I lost my mind until the toilet paper shortage popped up in Michigan. With the amount of toilet paper I bought, it took a FULL 11 1/2 MONTHS for us to go through it all. Our asses (pun intended) were set during the TP shortage. We didn't need to leave the house for 2 weeks, and that was STRICTLY to get stuff like milk, orange juice, and a couple small things that couldn't be frozen and had a very limited shelf life. It was 6 weeks into lockdown before we started needing to replenish certain other things like Hamburger, certain kinds of chicken, bread, fresh fruits and vegetables, and stuff like that, but even then we had enough food for a while. I always did the grocery shopping during the pandemic, and made sure to keep things stocked. While my mom INITIALLY was pissed over the money I spent, once we got deeper in and we started hearing the news that there was a TP shortage, and all that other stuff she was actually really relieved. It's now 4 years later, and she will swear to ANYONE who will listen that I singlehandedly saved the family with my shopping habits during the worst part of covid.
