I have an XJ-S with this ECU and I'm just about at the point of throwing it out. I have been through and tested the diodes, replaced many of the capacitors and some of the resistors, reflowed a bunch of solder joints and even rewound the inductor thingy to no avail. The ECU still outputs shortened or missing pulses to the ignition module when the revs get too high. I've measured this on a scope, and verified that the inputs to the ECU seem OK. With the ECU in this state. I can cruise around OK, but if I floor it, it's like I hit a rev limiter. The exhaust pops and bangs, the rev counter goes nuts and I have no power.

I also have always had a poor idle - I think all of these engines do. The only example I found online of anyone curing it was someone who found their engine's valves didn't seat very well. They sent the head to an engine rebuilder and after the valves were reground or whatever, the car could be made to idle properly. That's low down my priority list at this stage!

Cool video! I've done a belt change on my CLD-1450 (much older player) and I'm struggling to get the tray back in! I'm glad I wasn't the only one finding it a challenge! I've had 2-3 attempts and I came back to this video to have another look. Looks like that spring screw on the side when you are just loading the tray in is my next trick to try. I can reach the tray gears from the front door like you're doing. I've rage quit for now so I'll try again another day :)

It sounds like a satisfying repair journey! The B&O 8902 is a beautiful piece, and diagnosing the extreme red flare over composite must have been quite the puzzle. Identifying and replacing those faulty Philips light blue caps with new ones was a smart move, and it’s great to hear the composite picture is now much improved. Keeping vintage equipment like this in top shape takes skill and patience-well done on bringing this classic back to life!

in reality the glue that was dry was used to show you how the detached part was originally attached to the magnet because it was phased by the manufacturer, by sanding it you removed the signs that made you understand in which position it should be attached to the magnet and it will never turn the right way again, the same thing happened to me and then I discovered that it had to be done as I told you and I had to buy a new motor

Pre-1990 releases on VHS and Betamax copies have its original soundtrack unlike any DVD and Blu-ray releases that featured an altered soundtrack (few dialogue changes, instrumental synth songs, modern SFX). It’s like if whoever was in charge of the remastering process back in the DVD days had tried to make it sound like a Fast & Furious movie or if George Lucas came in but instead of changing the original Star Wars trilogy to integrate CGI in there where it hadn’t existed in their motion pictures, it’s with the audio. It was ridiculous. To put it in a certain scenario, if someone were to go into an art museum and replace the real Mona Lisa painting with a replica, it’s a case of destroying history to which I never appreciate.
@JCTsFascinatingHobbiesАй бұрын
Agreed, the DVD release ruined the musical score. That was a big part of the original versions appeal. I have two Betamax copies but my first one started to degrade. I purchased the DVD version, realised it was rather disappointing so hunted down a better Betamax version to replace my original.

If it has SCART output there is a good chance it will properly convert to ITU-R REC.470 signal. Though I would still prever to make a master file and then duplicate from that.

Such nice machines! I have an Akai VS-9500 which is based off the JVC HR-3320 (some sources say 3330 but the 3330 has more functions than the VS-9500). I changed the belts which was easier than I thought and have to replace the cassette lamp. Only the belts at the top side are a bit of a pain because of the cassette lift. I'm having a bit of a struggle getting the lift back in correctly. The gold part that sits at the back of the circuit board for ff/rw/play etc looks different in my machine. Also the previous owner said that the machine ate tapes, so I'll have to check on that as well.

Great video. Thanks. Clear explanations, clear speech (which is rare these days!). Quick Q: If you're winding back the caliper piston to replace the pads, do you have a simple tip to ensure its lined up with the pins behind the pads?
@JCTsFascinatingHobbies2 ай бұрын
On this style of caliper, the pads usually fit into the carrier and stay put. The caliper sliding pins can be removed and lubricated before being replaced. The caliper will slot onto the carrier and with some shuffling, can be coerced into lining up with the mounting points on the caliper.

I had a Sharp GF1740 when I was younger and just called it a Radio Cassette (as it was mono), can't say if I've ever called these either Boomboxes or G'Blasters. Something like this I'd call a Stereo Radio Cassette. According to Google the term Boombox was first used by the New York Times in 1981, so maybe it was more an American term that eventually made it over to the UK.

@JCTsFascinatingHobbies2 ай бұрын
I’m not sure to be honest. I replaced the fan motor on mine and it now lives in the conservatory. I find that the water container needs a jiggle and a slow close of the door when emptying it, else the light will flash or stay red.

Thank you. This greatly helped me replace the rollers on my Beko DCU8230. However, I did not remove the heater or any electric cables at all. That was overkill for me. @19:46, all you need is to remove the bottom 4 screws that go into the chasis. + two top corners. This will help you push the drum back about a 1-2cm or so. That's all is needed to remove the existing rollers and put a new one in!
