I’ve just picked up a Zorki 4k and the results have been great. Love using this camera as you have to really slow down and think. Have you tried the original Olympus Trip 35? Now that takes some beating. I’ve reviewed a few other compact Film cameras on my channel too.

It’s the eternal argument between 35mm and 50mm. My rule is 35mm if I’m going somewhere with narrow streets and big buildings and most of the time I’d choose a 35mm as my default. But 50s are so small you can carry one in your pocket. Nice video.
@vintageadventures29694 ай бұрын
I think you’re right to choose the 35mm as your default. My current travel set up (for my mirrorless camera) is a 40mm and a 28mm… maybe a 35mm would be less hassle

I really liked the photos. I started serious photography in elementary school on the 50s with far lesser cameras than the Zorki 4K, like the Argus C3 was advanced in my eyes. I think I’ll get one of these because they are quite modern in my eyes for a rangefinder. Still, love my M4/3 cameras, but these old cameras produce a different kind of image. Thank you for the video.

I don’t use my Zorki 4k much these days, but it’s one of the most comfortable cameras I’ve held in my hand. I wish my M2 had the same shape as far as the body goes. I learned how to meter by eye with my 4k and haven’t needed a light meter since.
@vintageadventures2969 Жыл бұрын
It is a nice feeling camera. Metering by eye sounds a useful skill, unfortunately I don’t shoot enough film to get the practice in.

For £25 you got a real bargain with the lenses and even the VC-700 vertical grip! I had a Minolta 700si back in the early 2000s and I still have one in 2023. An amazingly advanced semi-pro camera for its time and it's still pretty damned good when put up against today's digital marvels. Pretty much impossible to get a poorly exposed or out of focus shot, unless you are really clumsy! Sadly, on a a lot of them, the grip plastic cracked, decomposed and became a sticky mess. However, that's not too difficuly to replace with alternative material if you are fairly handy with a modelling knife/scalpel. A great selection of lenses available too, especially with the Sony A mount ones, most of which work great on the 700si.

God man I think the Minolta came out cleaner. But I love something about the extra noise in the pictures on the Olympus. Is that a characteristic of the expired film, or the camera itself?

A couple of years ago, my son wanted to learn film photography, so i bought a Nikon FM. I learned how to operate a completely manual film camera when I was a teenager, but after years of using a digital SLR, I didn't like using the film camera. Two years later, I'm using a Zorky 4, a Zorky S, a FED1, a Leica iiif, a Konica 1, several Nikkormat cameras, and the original Nikon FM I purchased for my son. It takes time to switch over to film, especially for you younger people who didn't grow up with it, when it was state of the art. The pictures you took were nice, and very clear. They wouldn't stand a critical analysis by a photographic expert, but they are not intended to. Look at old black and white photos taken in the 1930's, 40's, and 50's, that were not taken by professional photographers. They are not fantastic photos, capturing technical perfection, but they are amazing at capturing the feeling of the era. That is what photography is supposed to do. Just my humble opinion. Great video, thanks. And just so you know, people love my cameras when they see them. And if it makes you feel better, I'll give you ten bucks for your camera, if you don't like it.

That's a steal at £25 you would pay that on ebay for the grip on it's own. I've a couple of them and there a great camera especially when you get them at the right price. I also have 2 dynax 7's both with grips and paid well under £100 for both of them.

@garymorrison2772 жыл бұрын
@@vintageadventures2969 when you're getting them as cheap as I got them why not. I'll get round to putting a couple of rolls of film through them and then keep the best and sell the other one with the grip and a lens and hopefully make £150 on it 😁. In fact I've about 30 cameras, mostly Nikon's, Minolta's and a mixture of other 35mm slr's and another dozen or so medium format folding cameras from the 40's and 50's all in the process of cleaning up, replacing the light seals then film testing before they go on sale. And if I make an average of £60 -£100 per camera over the next year or so I'll be happy because that will pay for my own collection and with the resurgencein in film the new owners will have great but still very affordable cameras. My own collection is restored but mostly mint or close to and fully working condition of Nikon's, Minolta's slr's, Zeiss, Voigtlander's, Agfa and Kodak medium format folders. Not forgetting a mint Canon A1, and a mint Olympus OM10. And of course a ton of lenses.

I bought one of these new for 900 aud in 1994 duty free, it was at the time camera of the year from various publications but I couldn’t afford decent lenses I recently bought the Japanese Dynax 7 labelled Alpha 7 as I wanted to go back to the mystery of seeing how the shots turn out and the artistry of setting up the shot without the easy way of just taking multiple shots

Recently went on a trip to the US, brought a 28, 50 (the same Nikon series E as yours) and 100mm (series E also) with me and as much as I like my 50 mm lenses I mostly cycled between the wide and tele lenses, when I wanted to capture either a scene or a detail / distant object. As my "everyday carry" I stick to the 50mm though, it's not perfect for every situation but it is the most versatile for my style of shooting when I can only bring one lens with me.

I could be wrong but I think with ISO 200 you leave the setting for the AF trip at 100, this may be why some of your AF trip pictures look a tad underexposed. My Trip AF takes superb pictures - as good my mju. Great locations and some excellent snaps there , lovely, long live 35mm film!
@vintageadventures29692 жыл бұрын

@jamesgalloway3032 жыл бұрын
@@vintageadventures2969 the TRIP AF is totally undervalued. I'm not b*llsh&tting, it really is as good as the mjus, it's just uglier and a bit more cumbersome. Sad you sold yours, get another one, you won't be disappointed. Mine works best with ISO 400, so sharp! It has the famous Zuiko lens too. The AAA batteries are cheap and easy to get hold of and because they only power the AF and occasional flash they last ages, good luck, and congrats for sticking with 35mm so nicer than digital!
