Yes, a heretic legion. About 10k years before the events of the game, the imperium fought a civil war between loyalist and traitor legions corrupted by Chaos. Presumably, Chairon was present on the planet Calth when it was attacked by the word bearers. Then he was one of many test subjects put into stasis for 10000 years for the development of of the primaris marines.

Fun fact the imperial cult started with their primarch Lorgar for which his crown jewel (basically space Jerusalem) was burned to the ground because the emperor was a violent atheist How lorgar revels in what the imperium has become

In many ways, our group in SM2 is the opposite to the one we have in SM1 >Instead of an old and wise veteran, we have a relative rookie. He has seen combat but is nowhere near the level of a veteran firstborn. He is also impulsive at times, compared to the relativly calm veteran. >Instead of by the book guy who cant think outside the box and any divieation from the book is heresy. We get a fresh mind, and open mind. One that understands the book must be followed, but sometimes changes need to be made. He is a fast thinker that can come up with unorthodox yet effective plans. I like this new dudes, im looking forward to seeing them in a dlc and possible sequel.

I will be paragraph guy So the guy in the middle is Titus, he was accused of heresy a few centuries ago because he could withstand corruptive warp magic, which usually can only be done by people who are already corrupted (exceptions apply) though these accusations are false he felt that his tainted reputation reflected poorly on his chapter, so he sought penance as a death watch black shield, meaning he was stripped of his chapter heraldry and sent repeatedly on suicide missions, his chapter master recently ordered he be returned to his chapter and he kept the honor chain that showed he was in the death watch but because being a black shield is considered dishonorable, it was redacted from the records, he is confronted in this scene because he was accused of heresy again and mysterious hints to his past have been building up, so his squad mates confront him after finding a lack of records concerning him.

@CM_Nicholas he has 4 golden stud's which indicates 400 years of service. Silver studs often mean 50 years. If u read the old white dwarf that actually told his story. He was held by a Inquisitior who was corrupted (for roughly 100 years and then he served in the death watch for another 100) he served the ultramarines for roughly 200 years, b4 being taken. If any of it isn't retconned tho he is almost older then Calgar who is said to only be 400
