Hi - I used a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and a Panasonic Lumix G9. I used a variety of lenses with the G9; 12-40mm, 45-150mm and 100-300mm. I definitely needed the telephoto zooms for the wildlife shots. Thanks for your comment - hope you get to do the trip.

You will love this trip. We sailed on the Roald Amundsen in March 2024 and loved Antarctica so much, we are going back on the Fridtjof Nansen in December 2025, this time with friends and family. If you have several days in Buenos Aires, I highly recommend you take the fast ferry to Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay. It takes around 80 minutes each way and is a great day trip. Colonia is a World Heritage site and you can find videos about it on KZbin.

Are you running in direct drive? Also what weight are running at and gear ratio?
@F70100
@F70100 Жыл бұрын
Yes, it's a direct drive kart, class weight minimum is 152kg for kart and driver. The engine is a TKM BT-82 piston port motor. It will rev to 16k but most useful maximum is around 15.5k. On this circuit, gearing of 10/82 is usually about right.
@caluzzucarrazzi5549
@caluzzucarrazzi5549 Жыл бұрын
@@F70100 thanks a ton for that info! I just have one last question, under hard braking in a direct drive kart, how is one able to lock the rear wheels? Wouldn't that shut the motor off? I appreciate your response 👍
@F70100
@F70100 Жыл бұрын
@@caluzzucarrazzi5549 Yes, if you lock the rear axle, the engine also stops. However, once the axle is locked and you are sliding, you are not braking effectively and you won't slow down. Maximum braking is achieved when the axle is almost on the point of being locked, but not quite. Easy to say, takes a lot of practice to achieve, especially as most karts with a brake mounted on the left side also want to start to yaw right as you are braking. Take a look at some of Nikki Richardson's videos: www.youtube.com/@nikmondo
@caluzzucarrazzi5549
@caluzzucarrazzi5549 Жыл бұрын
@@F70100 so max braking is achieved just before the axle reaches the point of being locked, interesting. I was curious because when I watch the Formula A and Super A races I always see the drivers sliding as they brake for a corner, I assumed their axle must be locked for an instant to do that. I also never knew under max braking the karts "yaw" as you put it, to the right, and this only happens if the brake is mounted on the left side of the kart opposite to the drivetrain?

Hello Donna, thank you for your kind comment. We had a corner cabin (856) on the MS Roald Amundsen with a double aspect balcony which overlooked the starboard side and the stern. If you are wondering why it said ''POST'' on the Norwegian flag on the boat, it is because the Hurtigruten ships also ships and brings mail (post) around on their trips to several places in Norway along their way.

Just for info we took the trip that started as these guys finished. We came on board at 17:00 on the 25th so the same day that this trip ended and we had four days in Vancouver tacked on at the end of our trip. It was great to see what we had seen albeit in the reverse order; Icy Bay, Tracy Arm, Petersburg, Wrangel and one of our stops was a very impressive Sitka. My wife and I can’t praise Hurtigruten enough. This was our first cruise with them and they were outstanding. The Phillipino restaurant team were among the best we’ve ever seen, engaging and professional. They made every meal time a special occasion. And we can’t forget the behind the scenes chefs who turned out impressive meal after meal. I could blather in but it’s not my blog and no none of our memories are on this site. I usually keep well away from telling our story on here, but to add just this little to the videographer; it’s even more impressive in the flesh and truly will rank upon one of the holidays of a life time. I heartily recommend it 👍🏻👍🏻

What an inspiring video. Great job ! I'm hoping to voyage on Polarly in Feb 2022. I do not usually take video these days but you have made me think again as this trip looks special. I had even booked the same excursions as you lol They recommend a pair of crampons for the walkable towns. Did you wear those ? Surprised at how good the light levels are in the vid for Jan. I watched a repeat of 'Cruising with Jane McDonald' doing this trip on the same ship so can't be too bad. Thank you !

Thank you for your kind comments; I hope your trip goes ahead as planned. We each had a pair of Yaktrax which we did wear occasionally when ashore. They’re relatively cheap and easy to put on and off. We were lucky with the weather ( hardly any cloudy days) and the low sun meant that “ golden hour” lasted a big proportion of the day. For photographing the Northern Lights, use a tripod and the widest aperture that you can. Focus at infinity. You then have to trade off shutter speed against iso. I limited iso to 1600 and that needed shutter speeds of 6-8 seconds. You can get shorter shutter speeds (less motion blur) by increasing iso (more noise). Or vice versa.

I was staying at the Thon hotel facing the dock in Tromso when late at night I saw the Hurtigruten arrive in port. This year, I’ll be on board to experience it 💕 Update sept.2 - traveling on the MS Polarlys was such a pleasant experience that I want to board again. The staff is multilingual and very friendly. The food is really very good, served buffet style, and caters to the carnivore and vegetarian. I highly recommend it.
