Then the next patch comes. Your purple gear is now same as heroic blues and the grind begins again. They never fixed the gear progression issue they caused when releasing dungeon finder just added more ways to get gear other than dungeons. Then completely forgot they weren't supposed to release most content immediately and wonder why the content keeps dying off in a month. Especially with these last 2 expansion making it easier to get gear than ever for alt characters.

How many attempts? I mean i almost did it unknowingly on regular servers. Got a hunter to 55 without dying. I only died going into th gorilla cave in ungoro cause they chain pulled like 6 gorillas at once. Looked at my statistics and that was somehow his only death at that point. But overall zero attempts because once you know the ebb and flow of classic WoW like don't enter caves until you over level the quest, pick off the solo mobs instead of the gnolls surrounding their campsite, only go into dungeons with decent groups etc you won't really die unless you are spared from luck and just miss for a consecutive ten seconds or unless mobs spawn right on top of you or just essentially random/unfortunate chance
