Does this mod have similar no input buffer like melee, or is input buffer kept?

There is still an input buffer but its been altered from Ultimates. iirc there's still 4-5 frames of input buffer but no hold buffer.

@@peamut547 AI hasnt really been touched from what I know so some characters are pretty strong and some forgot how to recover. Its something planned but not a priority rn

From what I understand, they are more based off of the Marvel vs Capcom iterations. It makes them feel unique from other characters so I think its pretty interesting.

I love mods, but this one sort of makes me tired. It's the six billionth "what if advantage was even advantage-ier also wave dashing" mod. Yes, lots of heart and love. No, nothing new. The best thing here is that it's like every character rebalance mod combined into one and that is cool. But fighting Melee fox and Falco with what feels like Sm64 hitstun won't be fun no matter how much heart was put into it.

I don't know if something changed in 0.38.9 but i cannot hit a dacus or dacds to save my life. I can in the lower speed in training, but cannot hit them in full speed. Anybody have any tips as to how to improve on that?

Its important to know that every characters optimal dacus/dacds timing will be different. Sometime you want to do the inputs as fast as possible and sometimes you want to wait until the timing window is about to end. Updates that change a characters dash attack or smash attacks may also effect if/how a character can dacus

at 2:30, you say that you can waveland from horizontal or even upwards air dodges. how does that work? do you check if there's ground below the character and always waveland? does the player need to press down or anything? does the upward angle need to be shallow or can you even land when air dodging straight up?

I havent looked into the code directly but from what I understand, the most likely case is it checks if there is any ground/platform within a specific range below the players ECB during an airdodge and snaps them to said ground/platform. This is regardless of direction so you can waveland onto a platform by airdodging straight up. I believe it was done this way to get max length horizontal wavedashes to be easily accessible like in rivals and slap city, but I'm not sure if upwards wavelands were intentional or an emergent consequence of how it was implemented.

I’d say project m. Don’t get me wrong melee will always be the goat but for newcomers its off putting because of the tech, limited character selection, and how only like 6 characters are viable.

Melee has l canceling and tap jump is always on. Melee also doesn't have based hitfalling incineroar. So nah.

@@Amoro22 if you’re gonna come in with an attitude, then leave. melee has actual good online netplay, and fun tech that this video adds as a “mod.” None of which ultimate will ever have. The game is still played after all these years for a reason.

Its nowhere near as good as it used to be, so palus tend to save it for ledge traps. I don't know the mu that well, but spindash may also just break through it.

just a tip for future vids, the [universal techniques] title card lasts waaaay too long. perhaps chapters have to be a minimum of 10 seconds and that's why you did it, but if that's the case honestly I think just putting the title screen down to 3 seconds and including [universal] or [non universal] at the start or end of each chapter title would be a better way of going about it. edit: removed the second title card from my feedback cos turns out u did that one much closer how I suggested, prolly even better lmao. first title card was the outlier I guess

It would be cool to see a basic overview of what characters specifically can do but id imagine that would take a lot of work to edit, film, and organize. Feel like people just look at the universal mechanics and just scream "just plah melee bro" (even tho they work different and theres like 30 more characters to play) and also ignore what the HDR team did for the movesets. Like new Ridley and Banjo in the nightly is so much fun compared to their prev.

Funnily enough, going thru character changes was the video I had planned on finishing next. I would most likely break it up into multiple parts though. And I do agree that it is frustrating when people say 'just play X game' but that usually comes from a place of ignorance so I try not to get upset.

Projects like these are fine, but I feel like there is always a bit of niche to it when you use the argument "add depth" to the game It comes off authoritative when the reality is that you have decided to improve the rate at which combos can be achieved. You could say that it enhances the experience based on speed. It's just that the only other time that such language was documented in an official way was when Melee's website introduced L cancelling The reason I'm compelled to use the term niche is due to the overhead that brings 'advanced techniques" into the conversation. No one wants to discuss the philosophy behind convention, postulate the influence of new mechanics, or have inductions of new techniques that would influence how we perceive setplay. Many many variables that are worth round table discussions So every time we double dip into AT's it's always to revert to rote habits. Ostensibly reworking the entire cast around old frame data. That's a broad subject to have authority over especially for a game that has significantly large audience Everyone that happens upon this formula acts as though they have been exposed to it for generations. Meanwhile, the actual author is providing his own footnotes about how why he made the decisions that he did regarding direction. It would be a shame to discount his input ala _the author is dead_ on account of it being one person. Saying nothing of his vested interests and experiences

I feel like you have to major misconceptions about the project as a whole. Firstly, it is objectively true that adding mechanics to an engine that offer new options in facets of play like neutral and punish game do inherently add depth, just by the pure nature that both players are allowed to make more nuanced choices. It is true that since many of the options added are movement based, faster gameplay will be brought out as a result, but that is more so due to people having more ways to play. What I mean is that if you look into HDR tournament footage, you will still see many slower paced characters doing very well in the meta. Faster gameplay is more accessibly viable because the new options allow it. I also would like to note that this does not mean that Ultimate is a shallow game. I competed in Ult for around 3 years so I understand how difficult competition in it can be, and how nuanced decision making has to be to succeed. However Ultimates depth comes almost entirely from its mindgame aspect (prevalent in all competitive games) than any system within it. Ultimate was made to be as accessible as possible to as many people as possible by streamlining many classic parts of smash (shield drops, for example). Secondly, HDR is not trying to be Melee or PM again. I understand that it is very easy to see it that way, and even I liken it to PM when explaining it to newcomers, but HDR's main philosophy is to create a collage of the best aspects of every smash game. The developers want to make every character the most enjoyable version that they can be, which often means borrowing from older titles. But even the characters that are similar to Melee and PM counterparts still vary in many key areas. Falco for example has his Melee style down-b and laser, but has a different up tilt and forward air. This as well as stat changes on other key moves make his playstyle only resemble his older counterparts on the surface level. At the end of the day I recommend everyone give it a fair shot. It may not be very similar to ultimate, but its also not very similar to any smash game. The devs pay constant attention to community feedback to make sure the game is as enjoyable as possible. If you give HDR a fair shot, and its still not for you, thats fine too. I can respect that other people may not enjoy what HDR has to offer, an would prefer a different experience. Not every game is for every person but as long as we are all having a good time then thats all that matters :)
