Excellent performance! But I think that the composer is not Rachmaninov but Pavel Chesnokov: www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Sovet_prevechnii_(Pavel_Chesnokov)

Had the Opportunity stand right in front of Mikhail Zlatapolsky in the late 80's at Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow while they were warming up. Let me just tell you. The sound coming out of that mans body was so intense, my whole body was reverberating and my eardrums were twitching. I have yet to ever hear anything like it. There was no mic's no nothing. And the clarity of those low notes he was hitting was just so clear and vibrant... As well as loud! lol.. He could project those low notes over the entire choir with ease.

Wow amazing i am a huge fan of zlat!! i wonder how strong his throat was vibrating and even his body/back when he was singing! it seems like a small earthquake was going on on his whole body

@DavidKrautscheid he had so much power behind those lows and he could sustain them for so long too. Truly a 1 in Billion phenomena!

I've not heard this piece before, I'm exploring some Sibelius choral music to see it it would work for my choir. It's a strange and episodic work, a bit difficult for me to understand. Difficult to sing and conduct too I imagine. Perhaps if you knew the story and spoke Finnish you'd find more in the music. Pity about the intrusive coughing in the audience. But thank you to the choir for expanding our musical horizons.

I respect their ambition in performing this piece, and their commitment to honoring their past player Stuart B. Mindlin for more than 20 years. These folks murdered the requiem. I am unsure if one thing is right in this performance. The director didn't know where to place the cameras; otherwise, we wouldn't see Kathrine Lerner's face from one side only during the whole performance. The sound balance was unbalanced and that's only part of the reason why the soloists all did a poor job. The brass section, seriously you should have practiced, Choir - for the love of god, stand still while you are singing, this is NOT a house party.
