Do you have video on how to turn a propane tank into an air tank?
@DIY_Mike-rm5we9 күн бұрын
No, but a video isn't really required for this. It's really easy. Just need a pipe wrench or a wrench that will fit the existing propane valve. You'll probably want a length of pipe to fit over the handle of the wrench to give you leverage. (It will be on pretty tight). And a way to hold the tank so it doesn't spin. Use your imagination. example: Ratchet strap it to a tree, or put so heavy rebar through the holes in the hand of the tank and brace it. etc. Then when the valve is out, simply fill the tank with water til it overflows to get any old propane and fumes out. Then just use regular pipe male and female to adapt an air compressor coupler to the tank. I put an on/off ball valve in line so I could fill the tank and disconnect it for portable use. There are some videos out there, so I didn't make one. But it's quite straight forward and easy. The hard part is holding the tank still so it doesn't try turning when you're using a wrench and pipe leveraging to unscrew the propane valve.

Good idea. It's cool seeing how much water is in the water trap as it cools down. You can see the droplets collecting showing all the water that is "Not" going into the tank and/or into your tool. Especially something like my plasma cutter.

A 3db reduction is half the volume. It's actually pretty significant.
@DIY_Mike-rm5we23 күн бұрын
True; as an RF engineer I deal in "DB" gains all the time. The thing about sound, is that there are other factors to consider besides just the volume. Frequency is the biggest factor. A high pitch sound at 70db can actually "FEEL" louder than a lower pitch sound at 73db. But you are correct. A 3db drop is significant; but with my adding the 2nd filter it also changed the frequency of the sound, so it actually was a double benefit.

Wish I would have seen this before I purchased my “regular” Mac Mini. I need it for light video editing, graphics for print usually 600DPI files. When deciding which one to get I came across a fork in the road with the Regular and the Pro at the 1299 price point. The decision was either the extra 8 gigs of RAM vs the faster GPU and 8 gigs less RAM. Both have 512GB … I chose the regular one because of the extra 8 gigs or RAM. Maybe not thebest choice but I think it will work for me. Apple M2 with 8-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine 24GB unified memory <- the tie breaker 512GB SSD storage 10 Gigabit Ethernet Two Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI port, two USB-A ports, headphone jack $1299 Vs Apple M2 Pro with 10-Core CPU 16-Core GPU 16GB Unified Memory 512GB SSD Storage' 16-core Neural Engine Four Thunderbolt 4 ports Two USB-A ports, HDMI port, Gigabit Ethernet, headphone jack $1299
@DIY_Mike-rm5we23 күн бұрын
I'm sure you'll be happy. But some clarification in case you have a friend who has similar needs. The M2 Pro has many added benefits. The 16 core "Graphics Processing Unit" is much faster with graphics than the 10 core. Also, the 4 thunderbolt ports are almost a must nowadays if you want a quality 2nd monitor or high end single monitor; also the thunderbolt is necessary for a high speed external hard drive. My NVME external 2TB drive is "AS FAST" as the internal SSD in the Mac Mini. But it would never be that fast without the Thunderbolt port. You could buy an external thunderbolt hub to add on, but they are expensive. Finally; the 24gb of memory.... well, you're not really going to notice it over the 16gb. There is a big jump between 8gb and 16gb, but that's where it stops. That's because it's "Unified Memory"; meaning, it combines the RAM with the SSD hard drive to also be more memory if needed. So I just my 512gb SSD only for the operating system and the apps/programs. ALL other data, docs, files, photos, videos, music, saved games, etc. are all stored on the external 2TB SSD NVME drive. So the 512gb SSD and the 16gb ram will always be more than enough. You'll almost never go past 16gb of ram; and if you temporarily need to, the 512gb drive covers just fine. But you will be happy with your choice I'm sure. My opinion may help some others, but that's not saying your choice won't work for you. If you have more than a 1gb internet connection, the 10gb network card will come in handy. I only have 1gb, but if I get more than 1gb some day, I can buy a thunderbolt/USB-C network card that does 2.5gb for $28. (Again, thunderbolt/usb-c is the future).

Does the table have to be grounded to Earth?
@DIY_Mike-rm5weАй бұрын
It's not a matter of "grounding". Let's use a different phrase. (RETURN PATH). The reason I prefer that phrase is because some welding, like Gasless Flux Core uses DCEN (DC Electrode NEGATIVE). Which mean, the flux core wire is NEGATIVE, and what many call a ground clamp is actually the POSITIVE. Regular Mig usually uses DCEP. (The wire is POSITIVE). Stick welding uses EITHER depending on the stick. So, to make it simple, we'll say "RETURN PATH". The electricity goes through the flux core wire, into the metal being welded, and the metal is connected to the CLAMP "RETURN PATH" back to the welding machine. If you're working on FLAT pieces of metal, it's sometimes easier to make the entire table the "RETURN PATH", because a clamp is difficult to use. That's why in my videos I show DIFFERENT "Return Paths". The welding table, sometimes a regular clamp, sometime BOTH". Hope this explains better.

@DIY_Mike-rm5we2 ай бұрын
It would be best to get a 10 gauge cord. 12 gauge will handle 20 amps. That’s the wire throughout your house. 12ga on 20a breakers. 14ga on 15a breakers. But extension cords are braided wire and not solid like the wires in the house to the outlets. So I r3commend a 10 gauge wire extension cord. That will work. On a side note, if you buy one on amazon, it will probably say it’s 15 amps, but that’s the TYPE of plug on it. A 120v plug that does not have the sideways terminal. If it’s 10 gauge wire it will work fine for the welder.

Just bought the 29gal McGraw, and definitely need to add an aftercooler. I noticed on my 29gal (bet yours is the same) they moved the drain valve near the front for easier access, but it's actually a design flaw since now the valve isn't actually at the lowest point of the tank. After looking at it, I opened the valve until no more water came out, then I leaned the compressor, and more water drained out, just something to keep in mind, I'm going to make a video showing it shortly. I like your air filter mod! Thanks for the video!

I definitely like using the after cooler. And with the water trap BEFORE it enters the main tank, I get basically zero water in my tank. All of my desiccant beads in my desiccant dryer inline of my hose all stay blue now. I use to have to dry or replace the desiccant beads about once a month. Now, it's 3 months later and the beads are still blue.

Thanks Mike, great review. About your hub though… isn’t it supposed to go UNDER the Mac Mini (and flipped upside down from how you placed it)?
@DIY_Mike-rm5we5 ай бұрын
Not sure what you mean by flipped upside down. The bottom of the hub is black plastic. It would look terrible. As for over or under, there’s no right or wrong. I like it on top because it weighs less, and made of lower quality material, than the Mac mini . Don’t want the heavier item on top. Plus, I have the two sitting on top of a laptop cooler. Helps keep it cool.

Interesting. I double checked the product photos and that black plastic is actually the top of the hub (and you place the Mac Mini on top of that), but I understand where you’re coming from. Makes sense too. It probably does not matter from a functional perspective. Thanks for explaining!

good reminder thanks. quck question if I may got a welder missing ground wire, I didnt have #6 or #4 wire but I had 4x 16agw (they are insulated individually) so i ran 4 of them together as "one" wire and wired up at their ends, my question does that gives me of an equavalent lets say #4 wire, I mean 16 dived by 4 is 4. is my math wrong? thanks
@DIY_Mike-rm5we5 ай бұрын
Yea, it doesn't work that way. Doubling only reduces by a factor of 3. 4 each 16 gauge wires twisted together comes out to equal 10 gauge. If you have some lamp cord, extension cord, etc that is 12 gauge wire, then 4 of those together would be 6 gauge. Here's a link to a simple calculator so you can figure out what you need. www.wirebarn.com/combined-wire-gauge-calculator_ep_42.html. Also, FWIW the cheapest cable for such a thing is to go to harbor freight, walmart, or similar and buy some 4 or 6 gauge jumper cables. Put on the right connectors and you're good to go. 16 feet of 6 gauge jumper cables is only $18. If that's too much, you can spend $13 on 12 feet of 8 gauge. Put the pair together and you have 5 gauge.

Mines a 33 gallon upright maybe 8 gallon?
@DIY_Mike-rm5we5 ай бұрын
If you can find an 8 gallon. But for a 33 gallon, I am positive that the compressor is strong enough for another 10 gallons. I am putting out another video soon emphasizing WHY you DON'T put the auxiliary tank BEFORE the regulator. It will talk about the pressure capabilities of the aux tank. What I suggest is to go get a used 40 pound propane tank. It is about 9.5 gallons. A small (20 pound propane tank) like for a barbeque hold about 4.7 gallons. The propane tank can handle more than 200 psi so you'll be good for most compressors. But for your 33 gallon compressor, I'm positive it can handle another 10 gallons.
@josephlahood46475 ай бұрын
That would be great Mike. I'm actually rebuilding my piston plate seals etc now but the tank seems ok. I sprayed some Extend rust converter down top holes figured can't hurt. Looking forward to the bigger propane tank video.

I have to buy a MacMini Base M2 because I'm changing jobs. I don't have the money; a friend is lending it to me. In my country, we don't have many options. I already have everything else because I used to edit on an old HP laptop with a sixth-gen i3. I don't know what to expect; I just want my workflow not to be interrupted, but I don't have any other options. I've seen that in the base model, you can edit well in 4K, but I'm not sure. Now I'm scared, and I don't have any more time or money :( Wish me Luck I guess
@DIY_Mike-rm5we5 ай бұрын
Being you have very few options, you have to do the best that you can with what you have. I'm sure the basic mac mini M2 will work for you. It has it's limitations, but you should be fine. My biggest emphasis was when comparing the Mac Mini base m2 to the Mac mini m2 pro, that there isn't a real price difference once you compare them together with the same options. But being the M2 pro isn't an option for you, I recommend getting a decent NVMe external drive and case or really any external drive so your Base Mac Mini m2 can use the internal drive ONLY for the operating system and swap memory. Use the external drive for ALL of your documents, files, etc. It will help the mac mini base m2 run easier.

Used LP tanks even when emptied and the valve has been removed still contain mercaptan odorant residue which is "fun" to prank your bros when they smell "gas" (the odorant is not fuel gas). If you buy a used tank best to use a cheap USB borescope to inspect inside for corrosion since sheet metal doesn't last forever. "Receiver tanks" are wonderful things and most people don't know they exist so I scored an industrial tank dirt cheap and recommend looking out for them. Large bore hoses and fittings are as always desirable. BTW use a water separator and filter when plasma cutting so consumables last (much) longer.
