My solar installer told me that for newer shingle roofs, it is better to use the QuickMount Halo UltraGrip than the FlashVue system. Any pointers on which one is better? Our new roof was installed exactly one year ago
@IronRidgeSolar2 ай бұрын
Hey there! We have different options at different price points to meet different needs for installers. HUG can be much faster to install, especially on roofs with new shingles which can now be commonly bonded together, making traditional flashings hard to slide between them. Simply put, both HUG and FlashVue work great and use tested/trusted waterproofing technology.

How does the roofer ensure the rafter is located each time? My contractor said they try to locate it but if they don’t then 6 screws into my roof instead of the 2.
@IronRidgeSolar4 ай бұрын
That’s the beauty of the HUG! If you end up missing the rafter completely and putting all 6 screws in, you now have a deck-mounted attachment and can leave it be. At that point hitting the rafter is not necessary. The 6 lags into the roof deck provide an alternative solution to 2 in the rafter. Be sure to read our manual for full design considerations. Thanks for checking in!

the hole needs to be smaller its good because you can see the hole but also this way makes propriety . needs to be like others so its compatible with other parts and materials just in case. 11" long would be the best because 12" usually hits the roof nails. the code needs to be changed one inch in our experience. Overall seems nice. Also GREENTECH only stocks the flash foot 2 which is terrible. First you have to drill the whole stick the flashing in. Next, put the lag in. then twist the flash foot 2 in. Well after that the lag is covered and literally on a reinstall you have to dismantle the entire system now because you cannot access the lag. that's why the flash Vue is very attractive except the things we discussed.

Love the FF2. But this seems like trying to smoke a pork butt in thirty minutes, just not happening. I'd bet these will leak well before 25 years, but understand IronRidge having to compete because too many installers like to cut corners. Hey Grayson, we understand your perspective and appreciate you chiming in. To be clear, we tested the hell out of this thing to make sure we were confident with it being on homes for 25 years-and our warranty backs that up. How does this compare to flashfoot2? Does it last the life of the roof?
@IronRidgeSolar Жыл бұрын
Some newer shingles have their courses bonded together, making it more difficult to slide flashing under them. Because HUG simply goes on top of the shingle, it can speed up installs quite a bit. All our attachments are designed with the lifetime of the roof in mind. HUG is also backed by our 25-year warranty.

@@IronRidgeSolar I'm DIY'ing an install, and I gotta say, high five to your engineers and designers. What’s the best way to level out the rail system? Would that be to use a 6 foot level, I’m trying to do it the fastest and easiest way
@IronRidgeSolar2 жыл бұрын
Hey there! To level your array, ensure the rail attachments on either edge of your array are tightened at the desired height from the roof. You can pull a string-line across the rails diagonally, from corner to corner both ways, to spot any deviations in height. Adjust any protruding or descending rail locations to the proper height. You can also pull the string-line across the rails, from north to south, to check along the sides of the rails. Once complete, your array should be level and ready for modules. You could also use a spare piece of rail as a straight-edge. Be sure to go to IronRidge.com/training for new and improved training content!

Why not just make sure you're measurements off the eave are correct to start? And how are you adjusting rails up and down the rake with the feet securely placed and everything bolted anyways?! Just measure each end off the eave and be done.
@IronRidgeSolar2 жыл бұрын
Hey Aaron, we appreciate the feedback. There are definitely other ways to square up your array. Sometimes the roof eave may not be square on an old roof. The L-Foot hardware can remain loose so the rail can be adjusted, and then tightened after that. Making sure the rails are square also confirms that the racking is equally distributing support across the modules. We do have new and improved training content available on our website, so be sure to check that out at IronRidge.com/training. Thanks for checking in!

What is the difference between FlashVue and FlashFoot 2?
@IronRidgeSolar3 жыл бұрын
Hey Hrishikesh, great question! The FlashVue flashing is a bit narrower (to better fit between roofing nails) and also makes the pilot hole more visible--this also makes the stack of components and waterproofing a bit different in its style vs. that of the FlashFoot2. FF2 has a wider flashing and utilizes its own unique form of waterproofing technology. Both work great for protecting the roof and have passed the same testing. It ultimately comes down to installer preferences and pricing on why you may choose one over the other. If any further questions come up, please do not hesitate to contact our support team or your local distributor.
