@@fnafplayer6447 Where are you going to put the motor? The wheelbase is too short to put in in the back. You could put the fiberglass body on a front engine chassis like an S10. That would be cool.

Always remove cam bridge screen it's now a audi/Vw official notice to remove bc if it breaks it can float its way into something critical they actually issued a service bulletin , updated ones don't come with it

@@HardEnduro8 I still have it for sale. I could build another but it would be cost and time prohibitive. Building this one was a labor of love. I wanted to build the baddest ass two stroke quad in existence. I did but it was a phenomenal amount of work.

@@kenkaniff6483 The distributor drive gear that works off the crank was giving us a little trouble going into place. Hesitantly I tapped it in with a hammer. This video celebrates the successful installation and working of the distributor.

THEY HAVE 3 Gears to 3 cam gear you yes dry fit the cam gear and always put center bearing cap on crank to fit on half of block //when you can bush down on center bearing to bearing in place //crank is down all the way in place -- and you have 3 cam grear out there //- to make sure you bearings are in pins on mains

6v....stick the engine in and apin the crank the flywheel will grind it for you.

Yes, there are different size flywheels, there is a VW book that exists that shows the difference as well as comparability charts and just about every possible internal and external components…….think it used to be called something like the vw bible or similar, really helpful when doing big bore kits and building rails

It was a matter of placing a cutting iron on the engine flywheel and using it to adjust the necessary clearance in the gearbox!

Just run it. Turn it over manually, with the engine loose, gradually tighen it up. It will self clearance it out .

12votl flywheel is larger than 6volt flywheel. You will need to clearance the bell housing. Most swing axles were 6volt until 67 & 68. 69 and up were IRS CV tranys. You probably already knew that

@@48busman I’m publishing the video now of the clearancing of bell housing. I also had to change the starter bushing because of different shaft sizes. It’s all done and the new motor is mounted.

@@NTh3L3tt3r I’m still dealing with it leaking. I either tear into it or take it to a transmission shop. To save money it’s most likely going to be a diy project. Stay tuned. Video coming.

The original swingarm on the 1st gen was made of the wrong material. All it would take is to make one from steel. They make them but expensive. About a grand. I’d be interested, if someone made one that was affordable.

@@noahzark7975 I was thinking of designing and producing chromoly swing arms. I know they’re needed but how big is the market for 40 year old quads. They’re a grand because of the limited market.

I don't remember? But doesn't the beetle main line go through the center hump . If so have you done a pressure to you the main tube. Rubber on each end with shut-offs pressure gauge on one end air fill on other, pressurize tube to see if main copper/ steel hose leaks.

Follow up: where did you tie your red 12g with in-line fuse? Looks like at 10:43 it shows you may have used the passenger side battery?

If it came apart ,polish the bearing and crank journal with polishing emery 1500 + and make sure the end play is set properly to .004 - .005 this time.

It only came off with a big pry bar and an occasional hammer and chisel hit. I suspect either the machinist messed up or the wrong bearing was installed. I’m taking the crank in to the shop I always use tomorrow. They’ll get it right. Thank you

The cam should have a number on it. Looks like a “Stump Puller” Cam. Also maybe look in to putting a dog house oil cooler conversion on that single relief case. Have great 4th

50+ years ago we sold way more MC's & wheel cylinders for VW's then rebuild kits. IDK why they collected water, the bottom of the bores would have a huge pit, usually about 1/16"deep 1/4 to 5/8 wide & long. Also, there's air cooled VW mechanical sounds and there's rod knocks and there's wishful thinking!!

I’ve heard many rod knocks over my many years of being around motors. I’ve owned many trucks with my businesses and motors go bad. They’ve usually sounded liked a sledge hammer inside the motor. I didn’t hear that with this little 1600. That being said I won’t be making the mistake of not refreshing the bottom end again.

yeah, i mean you could hear that thing clattering like it had no oil in it but you took it down the road without a care in the world anyways and question if there's a hole in the block. i could tell you what happened without looking at the engine.

I couldn’t when I was driving because the exhaust was so loud but once I watched the video I’m like was that motor knocking from the get go? Oh well got a rebuildable long block coming next week. The buggy will be up and running in no time.

I tore the motor down today, publishing now. There was definitely some wear in the pump and bearings which would cause low oil pressure. Next time I rebuild an old motor it will be in its entirety not just the top end. Check out today’s video to see the damage. Thanks
