My former boss gave me a CD copy of the soundtrack as a Christmas gift 25 years ago.

I loved this masterpiece as a teen and still do as a music teacher now in my thirties. In another thirty years I’ll still love it!

Teachers can make a difference. Mr Holland’s Opus is one of my favorite movies. I wish now as an adult that, I would have been a better listener and student. Signed, Lifelong Learner

It kind of sucks but Dreyfus sells it through his heartfelt performance. Still a great moment.

I was an elementary school teacher for 25 years, the last 20 at just one school. I was always pleasantly amazed when one of my old students, now an adult, stopped by to say hello and thank you. This reminds me of that. ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

2:04 - 2:19 : The images of his son Cole as an adult, his wife Iris, and his best friend Coach Bill Meister with the tear in his eye watching Glenn Holland compose are burned into my brain with this section.

Just rewatched this film on Disney+, and once again cried multiple times throughout--it is such a brilliant, powerful movie, and this scene is just...indescribably beautiful. What a majestic composition...the trumpet fanfare answered by the French horns at 2:54 gives me chills every time.

This is one of the bands that helped me trudge through the darkest times of my life. I was scared to listen to this music now that I'm sober and haven't heard it in almost 5 years because I was afraid it'd remind me of the past in a bad way but it doesn't, I can fully appreciate this song in a new way ❤

When I first saw this in the 1990s as a child, it inspired me to keep my love for music and singing alive the rest of my life. Also, Richard Dreyfuss, imo was robbed of a Golden Globe and an Oscar award for his performance as Glenn Holland. Though I am very pleased to discover he was nominated for both at least. ✨️🎼🎵🎻🎺🎷🥁🎸🎶✨️

1997 Middle school I was in the symphonic band, we practice this piece for 6 months. I will never forget when I held the last note on my trombone and looked at the conductor he was crying. When I saw this movie recently, I now understand why. Mr. Weaver, I hope you are alive and well! I wish we can play this one more time sir. Thank you!

There’s a lot of flourish to this music, but something’s missing. It sounds like we start in the middle and go all the way around the cornfield without experiencing a beginning, or a “center” or “foundation.” I wish there was a signature phrase that could be repeated at least twice, with the third time being a variation. There’s no question it’s beautiful, but it’s a solid ”B.”

I've seen a young man's breaking heart I've seen the evil on my shoulders I've held self righteous through I never could see straight And all this from a land Of custom license plates Keep me from noise And their good will The funk that I'm in Lasts me until The smoke that dances In my lungs and I'm okay I've had enough This child lies bleeding I'll not forget How you left me there Everything i owned I lost in the war It sure looked easy To give up on a boy his age So what were you thinking? That a rent-a-kid life was home to me Still I am living With that choice of yours you made I'd give a thousand lives To see you suffer the same Keep me from noise And their good will The funk that I'm in Lasts me until The smoke that dances In my lungs and I'm okay I've had enough This child lies bleeding I'll not forget How you left me there Everything i owned I lost in the war Now that I'm grown up Now that I'm a man I announce the death of family In my future plans Wish they never lived Wish I never was A travisty

This movie came out when I had just got into middle school and it was inspired me to leave the choir and join the band. One of the best and happiest decisions I ever made... Still have and play my clarinet 25 years later!!

Similar - I remember seeing this poster prominently on the wall of the band teacher in middle school whenever I went through the room (we had a separate room for orchestra, but we would need to walk through to get to the storage for the music department). It turns out that a friend from high school eventually went on to be the band teacher at my old middle school - it's strange to think that poster might still be on his wall after all these years.
