Thank you for taking the trouble to post. I would agree that the essay within this video is aspirational, and would achieve a HIGHER mark than 40/40. Please rest assured that examiners appreciate that essays written under timed pressure in an exam hall will not be quite as good as those produced when there is more time. However, my aim with these videos is to encourage you all to be as ambitious as possible. Remember also that the more you practise and write these essays, the more you will be able to produce under timed pressure. Good luck - and keep enjoying this wonderful play!

Hi which textbook would you recommend to be best detailed for aqa gcse revision for this play?
@SchofieldonShakespeare
@SchofieldonShakespeare 18 күн бұрын
Thank you for posting. I wouldn't actually recommend a particular text book, I'm afraid. My view is that independent reading, and rereading, and making notes, in combination with understanding the mark scheme and referencing my videos, is the best way to achieve the top grade. The best students enjoy thinking for themselves, thus the brand of text book, to my mind, doesn't matter a huge amount. Good luck for your preparation.

What a lovely comment. Thank you so much for posting. Is there any chance you could provide a little more detail? For instance, how many videos did you end up watching, and to what extent did you practise writing your own responses in order to achieve significantly higher marks? I suspect this would be helpful information for other viewers and pupils.

@@SchofieldonShakespeare Dear Sir, I can't recall how many videos I watched, but I watched a lot of your Q3 and Q4 videos. Especially the Q3 videos proved to be very helpful, to help me develop a sophisticated analasys and how to actually 'dig deeper' into the text. I tried to write my own responses, sometimes only a few paragraphs and then compared them with yours, and tried to understand your approach. Overall, I would recommend watching as many videos as possible and actually try to understand the WHY. I am truly grateful for your help.

This reading is absolutely hidden in the og text. He curses her womb! There’s no way that’s not the Bard implying a context of abuse - at least verbal abuse and perhaps deeper abuse of the oldest daughter. Also the description of her sexuality can be read as a tacit admission of abuse since abusive parents often convince both their victim and themselves that the kid wanted it

can you make video on ellipsis?
@SchofieldonShakespeare
@SchofieldonShakespeare Ай бұрын
Thank you for posting. My view is that using ellipses is relatively straightforward, and so I'm not sure I could make a video just on this. I typically use them at the end of a sentence to provoke the reader into thinking more deeply about what I have just written...

@@SchofieldonShakespeare Of course, I watched every video of yours on how to answer each question successfully and studied your model answers, they helped so much, I recommend watching all videos on the english language playlist for anyone wanting that grade 9 because they go into so much detail. In terms of writing my own responses, I didn’t actually do this enough which is what I regret as I spent more time on my other subjects practising questions, but I highly recommend it to any students reading this. Thank you for your help sir!

so for this question, can we use quotations from outside of the moment to explore the wider text? would i lose marks if i focused on one part of the play?
@SchofieldonShakespeare
@SchofieldonShakespeare 2 ай бұрын
Many thanks for your kind message. For question a), you should only use quotations from the extract provided. You wouldn't lose marks if you referenced other sections, but you wouldn't be credited for it. For question b), you can essentially choose your own moment, which can potentially span several pages from the play. If you also use one particularly enlightening quotation from another section, I think this would be fine. Does this answer your question?

@@SchofieldonShakespeare Hi there! I watched almost all of the OCR videos for English Lit. (Love and Relationships for poetry and Rome & Juliet) and Lang. I tried a couple of questions myself, but they were usually unrelated to the video itself (mostly because I was a bit lazy!) However, as I watched, I made some quick notes regarding the method to tackle each type of question. Poetry was by far the most useful for me because of the layout of the videos. Thank you for all the help - it helped me tremendously secure a solid 8 on both my Lang. and Lit. GCSEs!!

How many distinct paragraphs do you suggest we write for q2,3, and 4 and if we need an intro/conc? Also is each paragraph a point? tysm
@SchofieldonShakespeare
@SchofieldonShakespeare 5 ай бұрын
Q2 - 200 words. Q3 - 400 words. Q4 - 600 words. The number of paragraphs doesn't matter particularly, but aim to fill up the lines in the exa paper. I would have a short introduction for Q4, putting the two texts into context. Yes, essentially one paragraph should be one point, which is developed / expanded upon as necessary. Good luck this morning.

Q2 - 200 words. Q3 - 400 words. Q4 - 600 words. The number of exact paragraphs doesn't matter too much. I would include a short introduction to Q4 putting the two texts into context. Yes, I would stick to making then developing one single point per paragraph.
