You are not wrong. He hasn't hit the point of accepting the role he plays in his own problems. If you don't maintain your position he will take longer to get over himself and start to turn his life around. It sounds like he will maintain his 'the world owes me' for a while longer. He will end up in shelters etc. when he realizes that he has to earn his place, that everyone does one way or another, he will then need guidance. His attitude to family means that it can't be you that he learns this from.
