Why wasn't John Forsythe interviewed and at least continually talked about?
@mikeh.973425 күн бұрын
We had great respect for Mr. Forsythe and pursued every possibility of doing an interview. However, he was in poor health at the time and just could not make it work. As it is, the interview with Mr. Spelling was one of his last, sadly.

Fantastic interview. Goodness, I would have loved to meet James Drury just so I could express my appreciation of the Virginian.
@mikeh.97342 ай бұрын
It was a real thrill when he showed up at the TV station that day to sit down for this interview. I knew a little Virginian history- and James Drury history- but after meeting him, I delved much deeper and learned so much more about the man. I could have done a much better job had I done even more homework. But then the last time I saw him in November 2019, just a couple of months before his untimely passing, he knew that we appreciated him as he got be the grand marshal in a local holiday parade. He later sat outside an art gallery having a smoke- as he was apt to do- and that was the last time I ever saw him. Not at the Shiloh bunkhouse, but on the streets of Tomball, TX. He was truly one of the greats. May he RIP

@@Luxecrissy Thanks, Crissy. Unfortunately, I'm not sure offhand. It probably was 2002, because the show ended that Fall, unfortunately. But if I knew the title or overall theme I might be able to locate it. They showed reruns of the show on ABC 13's Digital channel about 10 or 12 years ago for a period of time. I'm not sure beyond that. But someone at ABC 13 might be able to help you locate a copy if they still have it in their library. My old boss on the show, Wendy Granato, is now THE boss at ABC 13. lol So, there's that... Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

"The Rookies" (1972-76) was the very first Spelling/Goldberg Production, before "Starsky & Hutch" and "Charlie's Angels."
@WilAdams3 ай бұрын
You would have thought--after the Farrah episode--the producers would have come to the idea that each Season all the angels should have changed each year. Only Bosley should have stayed as the core of the show. Imagine a new stable of fillies each season. Actresses would A) not have gotten the Farrah big head B) not have grown Kate bitter and so the show would always be fresh. They could even have redone shows like Angels in Chains with the new cast, just so that the viewers could see the same story told differently by different actresses.

Kate Jackson was the best Angel hands down. And her creative input, her beauty and charisma and her acting performance, her adding gravitas to the show, all of that, the whole package, really made the show. Why didn't they mention Kate's outstanding performance in "Making Love"? She was extremely close to an Oscar nomination! I will love Kate Jackson forever!

Goldberg: "...and we had to tell Kate that she couldn't do it (Kramer vs. Kramer)...". What a lousy excuse! Here's what really happened: Though the producers of Kramer changed the movie’s schedule three times to accommodate Kate's Charlie’s Angels schedule, Aaron Spelling was determined not to let her do the movie. He switched her Angels schedule every time so the new Kramer schedule didn’t work. Finally he told the producers, “If she does the movie, it will never see the light of day!” because he’d file an injunction against them. Spelling was afraid if any of the actresses did a movie, they would think they were movie stars and leave the show. How wrong he was! If he had allowed Kate to take that golden opportunity, she would have stayed with the show as long as it lasted. He needlessly, intentionally kept Kate from doing Kramer. So she decided she would finish that third season, then leave the show. This is according to Kate!

Another thing that is so disturbing about these stories is how these artists - Farrah and Kate in particular - wanted to grow in their art - and the men running things wanted to keep them pigeon into these roles that focused more on how they looked than on their acting talents. Farrah was not a diva or selfish in the way they portrayed her. Look at any of her early days interviews and you see a young woman who was humble, not into the Hollywood nightlife, was a bit uncomfortable with all of the sex-symbol attention, and who really wanted to do serious acting. It took her a while to get something like The Burning Bed - and her performance helped to redeem her reputation and show people that not only could she play a complex dramatic role, but that she really wanted to. And for Kate to not be allowed to take on what could have been a career and life-changing role, was just dirty.

Maybe they just wanted them to do the job they were contracted to do…
@LittleGirlBlue_8 ай бұрын
@@Justintime619part of an actors job, especially when you coined the concept & name of the show (as Kate did) is to portray their character to the best of their ability. Them wanting more creative freedom, so they could make the angels into more fully flushed out characters… is exactly the job they were contracted to do. 👍🏼
@mojocat767511 ай бұрын
Basically, Farrah knew her worth and wanted to be properly compensated - and you had a hit show centering women - that was totally being run by and running into the ground by men. She had no contract. She had a right to bounce. Her reputation was dragged for years and not allowed to do other work for breaching a contract that, it turned out, never existed.

Kate Jackson was and will always be Angel #1, the woman who created it, the best actress, the Angel they were never able to replace. She made the show. KATE WAS THE BEST ANGEL. Farrah was the phenom, Jaclyn was third banana which suited her well. She was never able to be the leader or the phenom. The original Angels had chemistry and true friendship. 1. Kate, 2. Farrah, 3. Jaclyn. In that order.

Yes, as a matter of fact Farrah, Cheryl and Jaclyn were there when the show was created, from day one! Yes, they invented the name Charlie's Angels, the concept, you name it. Cheryl, Jaclyn and Farrah were also nominated for the Emmys for their work on Charlie's Angels because they all were trained and experienced actresses. And it showed! And when they left, the show went downhill, boy, did it bomb... The show never worked once Farrah, Cheryl and Jaclyn left after season 3... Oh wait a minute!!!
