G'day Rob, Zac is my name and I own a 1986 4BD1 CSW. I came across your video and I noticed what I think is your car has the 3.9 Decal stickers on the sides, My County has no decals and I only see decal kits on eBay that have the V8 on the sides. I was wondering if you added these stickers yourself, and if so, where you found them? Thanks.

Vehicle owner here. Upon inspecting the PTO winch and selector cable after this video. I have figured out that the selector cable was out of adjustment, causing the PTO drive shaft to not fully engage, and so the grinding noise when the winch loads up with the weight of the truck. I was able to use enough pressure from the winch, with a little drive of the wheels and unstuck my rear crossmember from the bank.

@colinduncan908 That’s very useful to know as I have an identical Perentie 6x6 to what you have and I’m actually fixing up the PTO atm. By the way can you tell me which wheels and tyres you have on it please. I’m looking at replacing the 7.50 R16’s it came with as they are over 10 years old and I don’t trust them on the highway. I’m trying to workout what are the tallest off road tyres that will fit with and without playing with the offsets. Not looking to go too wide as it’s mainly for sand driving and I know from having lived on Straddie that skinny tyres do just fine in the sand as long as you lower your tyre pressures appropriately. I would like to go to taller tyres to effectively increase overall gearing albeit slightly, gain a little extra ground clearance and increase the tyre footprint when running low pressures for sand driving.

Hey Rob, great video. Curios to know how much fuel you were carrying? We are doing the Madigan line in 2 months. thanks
@robmacca67 Жыл бұрын
Hey Mate... we went east to west, so in theory u supposed to use more fuel in that direction. I believe now u can only go from west to east which is a bit easier on the fuel. In the Defender which was probably a bit over-weight I carried 230ltrs (50ltrs on roof and 180ltrs under the car). I never touched the 50ltrs on the roof. We did do a few side trips and the distance we covered between fuel top-ups was 1097kms and used 168.82ltrs = 15.4ltrs/100kms (family of 5 was onboard, so we were heavy) - Hope that helps

maree quinn around 15 front and 18 rear at cold temps. This would increase by a few psi as the tyres heated up through out the day. Could have gone lower with the tyres we were running

Hey Rick... That's very interesting as I too 1st visited Kuddaree Waterhole back in 1994. Back then I knew nothing of it as I was just following an old fella who knew about it and wanted to show us. We camped there the night, then followed Eyre creek all the way south until we reached the QAA line. I remember we passed an old rusty steel boat along the way as well. Kuddaree Waterhole did have water in it as well when we visited in July'94
@rickhall71805 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply...yes there was water. We crossed the Simpson west to east and travelled up Eyre Creek via Annandale to Kuderee. We were a supply group for a crew that had done the Madigan. There was no track in those days but there was a lot of tyre repair. The trip was organised by a 4x4 mag and was led by Geoff and Lisa Portman. Geoff led the Madigan trip and Lisa led the Simmo. It was just after the Birdsville races in 1994. I still have photos from that trip. All the best...
