Did we see social workers go there and engage with them and see if there were other programs they could transition into. Did their families or friends reach out to help them? My mom, the Late Great Amelia Brown of Boltonville, Vermont, played with McLure’s Student Band at the fair back in the 1930’s. She was a little pipsqueak of a kid, playing her B-flat soprano sax. I remember her talking about the horse races. It was “a little rough” at night back then, too! My mom said they called it “The Drunkard’s Reunion!” I am so glad it’s been cleaned up a bit, but I smile when I think about her wistfulness as she told me those stories. ❤ Also, so wonderful to hear that real Vermont accent! So rare, these days.

My husband and I almost rented an apartment on the 1st floor of this exact building here the same month. I just had a nagging feeling that it wasn’t safe.
