I'm voting for the Float Fly as the most fun event we held in '24. Biplane Madness was great, but this was just super relaxing and a lot more hands-on flying fun.

Anyone down for a float fly :)
@Brestae12 күн бұрын
That was a little different flying than I had planned on! Took me forever to fly from the farm compound to the airfield, and it just didn't register in my mind how much wind I was fighting! Parked there because otherwise I'd have to back all the way out if I drove on out to where it was flooding out of the ditch by that crossroad. Then when I set down on the runway, decided I wasn't walking all that way, so moved the van down there and trudged the rest of the way through the water! And DAMN it was COLD!

Something is plugged up! THANKS Art for the video.
@Brestae12 күн бұрын
Well actually, something needs to GET plugged up! The water's all coming out of the irrigation ditch, which is (was?) overflowing just SE of the DG pile, and just on the other side of the runway. Question is, where will it go and how long will it take to get there!!!

Awesome flight! I usually fly warbirds, but it seem like that thing had almost endless vertical. I could tell you were cutting it so you could stall and do maneuvers.

Very nice to see Oliver getting some of his flying videoed and edited in this high of quality !! Great camera work, please tell me this was done with more than a cell phone, it looks amazing.
@RogueValleyFlyers-Video6 ай бұрын
I'd love to tell you it wasn't a cell phone... but it was! iPhone 14 Pro Max. I have a "real" video camera, but its impossible to keep planes in frame with its tiny view screen. The large screen on the "Max" version iPhone's helps greatly. The silly thing claims to video in 4k. On the one hand, that makes serious focusing near impossible, especially against solid blue sky, but on the other hand, if video is shot in 4k there's a lot you can do with it during the editing passes!

I'm been thinking about picking one of these up. Trying to decide between this and the AtomRC Swordfish. I don't need any of that GPS autopilot stuff, but I do have an extra O3 Air Unit to make use of. Both planes look really nice. Cheers for the video.

This was my first attempt at building out and flying fixed wing with FPV. I was just videoing on this one, but have since flown her completely via the goggles, and its incredible! I didn't do the Flight Controller thing, although I have that on my future project list. I absolutely love this Swift 2100 with EDF. Before FPV its a great glider, but WITH FPV, the EDF propulsion allows you to take off like a normal plane, which is much easier with FPV than attempting a hand launch. Without an FC, I chose to use a Spektrum AR8360T receiver, which gives me Vario, Barometer, and 8+ channels. Put the Vario on a switch as always, and set the transmitter to give verbal altitude updates every so many seconds. That helps compensate for not having the OSD telemetry that a FC provides. Used a TallyHo head tracker on Avatar Goggles X. The gimble that sells as an add-on option with this glider is functional, but the pans are pretty rough due to cheap servos. Plan to switch over to a MotionSic to make sight seeing more pleasant from up there!

Great work pulling this event together, Steve and RVF!!! I honestly can't say which part was my favorite... Oliver Willis' world class 3D piloting skills? Bud and StarDuster doing a Smoke Pass by the Sun? Jeremy Hewitt's insane method of torturing the videographer with his amazing and totally unpredictable Helicopter flights? Or the great company and cool Biplanes from all the RC pilots visiting from neighboring clubs!

So far, EXCELLENT! We have been through significant wind storms, and hit the high '90's temps, and its great. The Stripes that we recently added help TREMENDOUSLY with FPV piloted landing efforts by providing depth and speed perception visual references!
