Very soon the complex engineering on this ship ( old school engineering ) will be beyond the future engineers. Today it's all about electronics and apps.

I sometimes wish they would restore the SS badgers sister ship to operation as well. Would've been amazing.

She has been used as a parts ship for the Badger. A whole bunch of parts that you can’t get anymore would have to be custom made for her to sail again.

While loading that rig on the Badger is quite a feat I can't imagine getting it thru either Ludington or Manitowac. The streets from the dock to the Interstate near Manitowac are narrow with several 90deg. plus turns.

I knew it took a lot of work to sail the beautiful Badger but I had no idea, wow! Great job on the film. We have taken this ship several times including just this month. Thank you captains and crew and all staff, it takes a whole team and everyone does a great job. Thank you & keep up the great work. Bob & Susan

I rode the ship with my family in Auguust, 1969; I was only eleven years old; watched alot of television in TV room, ate great food, met all kinds of people and made new friends. We rode to Wisconsin Dells from Ludington, Michigan and later round trip! It's amazing this ship is still in service, memories say I recommend anyone to ride and at sixty-five years of age (2023), I would do it again ,,,proud Michigander! Ship Ahoy!!!

#78 Thank You for a fine video. Back in June of 1978, I wheeled the Badger as a passenger, from Ludington to Milwaukee's slip. Probably the only non crew member to do so! I knew the Captain very well as we worked together earlier on the Carferry, SS City of Green Bay, I was at the Helm on the 3 Mate's watch. I'm glad the SS Badger was saved for everyone to enjoy!!

When the captain (white hat) arrives in the rear pilot house, who is the other captain looking person (whirt shirt, shoulder badges, black hat) that soon disappears? Would be neat to see the coordination for docking (I know an anchor is temporarily thrown to turn the ship 180 degrees but when are the engines thrown in reverse (and I assume there is a neutral coast period) When the captain is in the rear pilot house for docking, does he use the wheel or is steering strictly done by varying the engines? Heard the engine telegraph bells going off quite a bit.

Got to see her twice in 2016 in all her glory in Michigan in a bay off the Great Lake. Will always treasure that. I grew up listening to stories of old steam ships my papa used to tell from the 40s/50s/60s and it was wonderful to see the last north American one in person

I would like to see the SS Spartan refurbished and used as a Great Lakes Cruise ship, with Ports going from Ludington, to Charlevoix, Mackinaw Island, Saginaw, Detroit, Clevland, Niagara Falls/Buffalo, Toranto, Sault St Marie, Green Bay, Manitowoc, Milwaukee, Chicago, Holland/Muskegon....that would be an amazing summer cruise.
