Do you find that the rebar steel holds a good edge? It looks like a great option with the cost of other steels
@darklakeforge3300 Жыл бұрын
I do find it holds a pretty good edge, I'll be it a bit softer then really expensive steel but I've not found it to be a problem, takes just a second to resharpen it and it cut's unbelievably well.

Very good job! I use a pricking iron on my stitching holes. the drawback is I have to count the number of holes on the front and back to stitch the gusset in. I have used a fold over belt loop, but I may start using the flat style. If you use the fold over positioning, stitching the first row and then folding it over is easy to get it wrong. I have been playing with leather since the 70's. Your pouch is excellent. That should last someone almost a lifetime. I look forward to seeing some of your other work.
@darklakeforge3300 Жыл бұрын
Thank you 🙏 yeah I never can get them lined up great if I don't go hole by hole with the iron. Someday I'll be good enough to make a pattern I can punch and it'll line up ✌️ thanks for stopping by -Sam

Hello, I liked your work. I wanted to ask where you found this big lether pieceand how expensive it was.
@darklakeforge33002 жыл бұрын
Hey Oliver, i found this leather at Tandy leather company, it's called oil tanned Kodiak. and i believe i paid about 80 dollars for a fairly large piece of it.

@@darklakeforge3300 I see, thanks! Just another question: is there a reason why you stitched the back panel and the lid together, instead of making it from one piece?
@darklakeforge33002 жыл бұрын
@@sasker1000 you know i think the reason was i was using some scrap pieces from when i made a run of wallets so i wouldn't use a lot of the hide i have. It would be easier and probably be nicer to use a single piece though. when i create the pattern for download i will probably include the pattern for both ways of doing it. it will save some steps and sewing for anyone who has a big enough piece of leather.
