@@fab_structures Can you fur out the CLT Wall with 2x4 & put drywall + paint? All the houses built with CLT that I’ve seen on the internet all have one thing in common, exposed CLT. Nothing is drywalled & painted. Can it cause issues because I know Wood is hygroscopic so the CLT Wall would absorb moisture & in my mind that might trap moisture between the CLT & Drywall? Exposed wood is beautiful but for me it would feel like you’re living in a wood box or crate.
@fab_structures Жыл бұрын
@wd8005 you can totally cover it up with Drywall. We just completed a project which we will hopefully be able to shoot soon using industrial CLT so not a finished CLT since we covered it up. insulated it with woodfiber board and high performance SIGA majvest as a membrane.

@@fab_structuresThis is what I'd like to consider for our next build: CLT walls on T-Studs (or steel), wrapped in a vapor membrane, insulated behind the interior CLT wall with Rockwool or Hempcrete, and plastered on the inside (over the CLT) with hydraulic lime or Termorasante (new Italian aerogel + lime plastering, super insulating). Does that sound possible?

@fab_structures Жыл бұрын
Sorry it took so long to respond to this! better late than never :) partly because of the interior layout, (both gable walls are bedrooms so the idea was to keep those walls solid for the beds... and also partly because there isn't much happening on the outside.. One gable faces the garage/driveway. Instead, the bedrooms have the big southern windows to get that solar gain.

Hi! How can one cubic meter of wood (approx 0.6 tonne) store up to 1 tonne of carbon from the atmosphere?
@fab_structures Жыл бұрын
Great catch! Since we made that video it’s actually been proven not to be 1 tonne and much less. Here is some data that might help explain the actual process of what’s occurring and it’s calculations! www.woodworks.org/resources/calculating-the-carbon-stored-in-wood-products/

@@fab_structures thanks, these calculations are much more convincing 🙂 so I can see 0.6 tonne of wood can store about 0.26 tonne of carbon, that actually relates to one tonne of CO2 equivalent. Thanks!

Could you explain the advantage of using the CLT vs a framed wall? It seems like you are using a lot more wood since it is a solid panel compared to 2x at 24" O.C. It is like comparing a beam to a truss. Like the design!
@fab_structures3 жыл бұрын
Yea that’s one way to look at it. Other advantages are sound, fire, it being an interior finish, more carbon sequestration in building, sismique strength. But the technology is more used in the commercial field to compete against concrete and steel. Thanks for your question !
@tatsianapalchekh53262 жыл бұрын
Frame houses are considered "paper houses" by many ppl and can't compete with brick (ceramic block, Ytong, etc) so the, point in clt is that u have real solid hard walls! I'd never built a frame house or sip panel house. Clt I would consider.
