Could you please tell me the depth of the water level as i have the 170 g2 and looking for a skimmer but the curve 5 skimmer says it needs to be in a depth of 9.5 to 11 inches which is not achievable in my sump as you cant adjust the weir and the ato sensor would be submerged

on the rare occasion that the skimmer reacts to something and overflows significantly, the overspray is captured and just drips into the sump.

I’m looking at getting a Red Sea 170 on marketplace, there’s one on there now in Edmonton. Looks like a great system. Does it need all these upgrades for a beginner system

nice tank. It's funny how when we run into problems like your GHA, no one can tell anything happened afterwards but you know the story about the one bald spot on the rock. I think we all have those

Are you happy with the reef octopus various 2? I just ordered a 170 G2 and am considering this pump for a return solution only, no custom manifold.

I'm close to going for the 200 G2. I like the manifold idea, so would like to do all of this before adding water! At least that's the goal. Thoughts on UV sterilizer off one of the valves? You sure use the tight space very well.

Same setup 3 years old running dual Kessil 360s and a Kessil H80 on a gooseneck over the sump. I pulled my skimmer out and use that whole area for fuge "kay-toe" 🤣😜. If I skim there just isn't enough nutrient and it withers and I'm suseptible to dinos (high par up top). Had the Two Little Fishies in the exact same spot fed from small powerhead running gfrc but it was a pain in the ass to change it so I just run a little not all of the time in the spillover and carbon in the sock 🤣. I'm running SPS Dom and have killed alot of expensive coral to get where I'm at. This volume of water has been the hardest reef I've ever maintained, built, or managed 😱. But once you get it dialed .... It's all worth it. Have fun, your manifold is sick! 🤙

Oh also, I stopped dosing and just use Kalk again 🤷‍♂️ pH is better and better hardness.

Overkill and a lot of maintenance.
@tomburli
@tomburli 2 жыл бұрын
Those are important words for any reef keeper to consider. I won’t debate “overkill” as that is relative to the use of the tank and how much work you want to offload to automation. I do want to comment on “maintenance” as this tank was built to be very low maintenance and the gear discussed should be seen to drive down maintenance, not increase it. The maintenance consists of measuring Alk, cleaning glass, filling ATO and emptying the skimmer at a cost of about 15 minutes weekly. 10% water change monthly costing about 15 minutes. Then refilling CO2 absorbing pellets, carbon and cleaning up the refugium every 3 months at a cost of maybe 30 minutes. The Tropic Marin All-for-Reef and refugium cover all the tanks needs, I no longer chase parameters or make any adjustments beyond the one doser (adjustments based on Alk findings each week, often no change). I suggest any new reef keeper fully understand why they are adding each piece of equipment but know that a very complex setup does not equate to a larger time investment. Usually, you will be saving time by providing greater stability as the core functions of the tank do not require your time. Something for those building out new tanks to consider, aside from feeding the fish (that can be automated as well), could you walk out of the house for a week and the tank would be fine? That could represent you just not feeling well, being buried by work or other life distractions. Today, mine would be fine, my previous attempts may not have been.

Hey Tom, congrats on your tank Amazing custom sump area I got my first tank and it’s a Red Sea Reefer 170 like yours I also got 4 of Kamoer X1 Pro like yours and I wonder how you attached it to the cabinet wall
@tomburli
@tomburli 2 жыл бұрын
I didn't want to do any drilling in the cabinet wall, so I used a heavy duty velcro tape. This allows me to quickly pull components off the wall for cleaning or maintenance. I bought mine at Home Depost. 3M Command strips also work great.

that's awesome! I've been working on my Red Sea 170 manifold and im almost done, should be getting it wet next weekend, used the same color pipe as you 😂, would be interesting to see how you plumbed it at the bottom on the tank. I put my manifold on the left side of the stand though. I also used the same conversion as SithRico's in his video. awesome job!
