WHAT IS YOUR SETUP ON FLEX . I OWN A FLEX 6600 AND WOULD LIKE TO ADD 2 METERS . WHAT EQUIPMENT ARE YOU USING.
@wb8cxo
@wb8cxo 7 ай бұрын
Hi, the Flex6700 natively supports the 2 meter band. All that is needed is a 2MLDPA to increase the 2 meter signal from the Flex6700 to a useable transmit signal level. For a Flex6600 you need to add a transverter to get 2 meters. Hope that helps. Thanks for checking in! Mike

I was licensed in 1986, age 40, thinking this would be a great hobby for Father and Son. With Son it didn't bite but he went with me to a lot of excursions. While in Dayton though he would stay at my Sister's in Springfield. 1986 was my 1st Dayton Hamvention. I liked both the indoor and outdoor events. Lots to see in 2 and 1/2 days. I watched over the years as the spaces in the north lot shrunk. My Thursday was spent with seasoned QRP OPs at the Thursday all day forum in MIamisburg until it was moved to Fairborn when we lost the motel we met at. Best 73, KB8AMZ, Terry

If you like electronics, radios, technology Ham Radio covers such a wide spectrum you can try different things & might not live long enough to do it all. I learned about flying and scuba diving from folks I met that were hams. Most astronauts have Amateur Radio licenses & I talked to the ISS twice! You fly PPC's getting a ham license would be easy. Most the information including practice tests are online. Get a Gordon West Technician Class book. Need more info ask any ham or let me know. 73

Hamvention in Dayton, Ohio next May17-19 2013 its the AirVenture of Ham Radio. Time is always a problem. You can build antennas & the Chinese branded radios r good and some are less than $100 & hams will give you stuff. Ham Radio from a PPC would be a blast! You can broadcast ur GPS position on Ham Radio and folks on the ground can track you online. Peoria Superfest is smaller than Hamvention Sept 22-23. w9az.com Kankakee Area Radio Society they will help you. Great hobby lotsa pilots are hams.

No doubt it was the most significant announcement, agreed. The cool thing is that with the 100 watt amp (which can be mobile or base), it will probably out compete HF rigs at the $900-1200 price point.
@wb8cxo
@wb8cxo Жыл бұрын
Currently the Chinese rigs are going to make it difficult for domestic manufacturers to produce these kind of rigs. Elecraft could make like a "KX4” and their devoted customers will buy it. The rest will be drawn to the inexpensive Chinese and Indian rigs. But that cud be the least of our worries.
@kd8opi
@kd8opi Жыл бұрын
@@wb8cxo I don’t think you’re right about this. The Elecraft KX3 has been a phenomenal success for the company. The bottom-feeding Chinese radios aren’t nearly as good as any of the major American and Japanese brands. Xeigu released their latest, and it was a piece of garbage, it needed firmware updates out of the box to be functional. What’s really happening (or to be more precise what has been happening for the past few years now) is that Icom and Yaesu woke up. They both offer sdr’s that offer superior performance, an integrated pan adapter, and 100w for $1000 or close enough. I think Elecraft needs to ditch the kx2 and kx3, and make a kx4 that is the ultimate portable rig. The fact is the kx3 is over a decade old, the kx2 is almost a decade old, and the K4 (as good as it is) is VERY expensive and partially a work in progress. Elecraft makes some of the best radios on the market, but I’m worried that they don’t make a “sweet spot” radio for $2000 or less that offers what Icom and Yaesu are doing. They got big by being better, the need to step up to the challenge.
