I was just doing some research for a Christmas trip to Europe via the Newhaven ferry. We have a young family and I didn’t know what the family rooms would be like so the timing of this video is incredibly great - very useful thank you!

Yeah, there's not a lot of info on DFDS' own website - they only recently put up three or four miserly photos! I booked the suite on a whim because my family of 5 enjoyed the suite on Stenaline and found the ordinary cabins on Brittany Ferries too small. It turned out to have been a good gamble. Hopefully my video will make it less of a gamble for other families. The ordinary cabins for 4 are more spacious than the ordinary cabins on Brittany, though; so if you can't get the suites or can't afford them, panic not. We had a quick look at the ordinary 4-berth cabin when crew were cleaning them, and they're as big as the cabins on Stena, but unlike Stena where you get a double lower bunk plus another single lower and two single upper bunks, on DFDS Transmanche they are all 4 single bunks. DFDS Transmanche cabins/suites have an Ikea vibe. Practical and plain with all the basics, everything works, spotlessly clean and nothing to worry about. It's not the slightly posher experience with a few extras (e.g. snacks, drinks in fridge, more tea/coffee, nicer soft furnishings) of the Captain's class cabins/suites on Stenaline but then it's a lot cheaper! Whereas Brittany cabins have always felt a bit tired / worn to us - although we've only ever had the basic cabins on Brittany and never tried the suites.

Having a flat lawn really helps. If your lawn is a bit lumpy it will affect the game quite a lot! But it is still quite playable - arguably more fun - on rougher ground like ours. I can understand why dedicated croquet lawns are usually only found around large manor houses with dedicated ground staff! The game is absolutely suited to a small garden.

Hi Andrew - apologies for posting off-topic here but I thought your username sounded familiar, I was looking around for videos featuring the PSS790 / PSS795 and yours from several years ago came up (it was closed for comments so I couldn't say hello there) - sad to see you were finally letting yours go after all those years. We traded a few 790 song tracks with you in the early 90s (on disc via the post, no internet then!)

Is there a similar way you can transfer like word text files to and from a tablet to a laptop? And does doing so work cleanly without losing text? Can you also transfer whole apps this way? I find tablets to be a bit confusing. With word processing on tablet there's no save button and many things look so different than on a laptop.

A can of spray electrical contact cleaner. Spray generously and leave it for 5 minutes or so, then scrub with a clean old toothbrush. Finally use kitchen roll to wipe up any excess spray.

Any idea what would be the transfer speed from a CF Card to tablet via OTG cable? Specially Raw images files
@aroakley
@aroakley 3 жыл бұрын
Depends on a variety of factors. USB-C is just a plug/socket definition. Speed is defined by number, not letter. USB2 maxes out around 480 megabits per second, in reality you will get about 175 megabits per second or around 22 megabytes per second. USB3 is theoretically 5 gigabits per second, but in reality is rarely over 700 megabits per second or around 85 megabytes per second. That's the cable & socket. Then you have to think what it is that you are transferring to - what type of storage do you have on your destination device, and what is your destination device? An SSD on a laptop? You'll probably get full speed. Some EMMC or a good Micro SD card inside an average tablet? You'll be lucky to get 20 megabytes per second. A top-of-the-range Apple iPad? Probably closer to 40-60 megabytes per second, assuming you're using a really good USB3 or faster cable and a really good USB3 or faster card reader.

@aroakley
@aroakley 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely not. About half to two-thirds, and bear in mind this was recorded on a smartphone's built-in mic. It sounds a lot less tinny in real life, although obviously at £75-£100 it won't compete with epianos costing five times more.

Wow, I'm really excited about this approach. I've been playing around with different ideas for quick development of IOT devices, but one of the main problems with doing R&D on 10 projects at once is securely managing ssh keys. But this approach would let me keep the OS & ssh keys on my local machine, while easily switching hardware for 10+ projects, with a single USB cable. I'm just "thinking out loud" here. Really great work man.

I have a couple of bb0045 variants; one grey with the middle pin, one black without. Also, since 4.5v is close enough to 5v, I have made my own USB power adapter; this then plugs in to USB mains adapters or "emergency" phone chargers.
