@@martinsundland7614 Well you know, there's not a lot of refilling stations around for those things anymore.

As a child I fondly remember the C&O K-4's going in and out of the Russell, KY yards. I believe some of those coaches were prior C&O. Those were the days of steam and cinders.

When I was a kid, dad had a 55 gallon drum that he'd fill with waste oil, old anti- freeze, old gear oil, and whatever else came out of what he was working on. He took about a 6 foot pipe, drilled some holes in it, and fitted it with a T that would screw into the drum bung. When it was full, he'd put it in the back of his pickup, attach the pipe, tip it over so the stuff would spray out, and he'd run up and down the farm's lane until it was empty. Kept the dust down and the bugs dead! And it never caught on fire once...

How did we let ourselves get talked out of railroads? This is our national heritage and history.
@dennisb-trains2325 күн бұрын
Trucks. And trucks deliver goods faster . You can blame society and the cost of maintaining aging railroads from the late 1880s. Also the bicycle crowd cried loud enough to get their rails to trails.
@diddlebug724112 күн бұрын
Yes trucks have taken over railroads but railroads have done it to themselves. As a former chemical driver, I know for a fact that it takes 2 weeks for the locomotive to show up after a chemical order is placed. Then another 3-7 days for the shipment to arrive at the customer then the customer is almost out of chemical so they have to call the tanker drivers to start bringing emergency shipments until the railroad arrives.
