Common thing on Rhodes. My key height is a tad high on mk II suitcase, it never double strikes. My old Stage did a tad, though was set lower and much nicer to play than my current one. Sending mine to a guy in Leeds to regulate mine. I can do everything else buy petrified of playing around with the key action. I'll knacker it up lol. Nice to see a fellow UK Rhodesista.

This could help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5CyZ5toYpd6hKM To address the issue, you should first detach the Conductive Rubber located beneath the key and carefully clean the contact areas underneath. The rubber can be easily removed, cleaned, and then repositioned without significant risk. Understanding the underlying mechanism is crucial. Each rubber piece houses two keys, with one key being slightly higher than the other. Pressing a key initially activates the higher key, followed shortly by the activation of the second key, depending on the speed of the press. The keyboard controller calculates the time difference between the activations of the two keys to determine the speed at which the key was pressed. Over time, the contact points within the rubber can accumulate dirt, leading to only one key sending a signal. Consequently, the controller interprets this as the key being pressed at maximum speed, which is noticeable in the louder sound produced by a faulty key. Therefore, it is necessary to remove the rubber, clean the conductive areas inside it, and then reinstall it. However, be careful to avoid touching, scraping, or applying any chemicals to the graphite conductors on the board (PCB) itself, as this could cause irreversible damage. **Disclaimer:** This procedure is intended for informational purposes and should be performed at your own risk. If you lack technical expertise, it is advisable not to attempt this repair yourself.

Great video thanks, my question is i found half of the pickup coils wrapped in clear plastic (like a finger plaster) on my Rhodes, ive searched the internet but cant find any info if this would prevent further erosion, or do you think it only keeps dust away from them? Thanks
@groovemonkey7310 ай бұрын
I've seen that before on some Rhodes pianos, its supposed to help keep dust and muck off of them, but I don't really think it makes much difference to how long they last, as in my experience, it's corrosion at the posts which 9 times out of 10 causes them to fail, not breaks or crud on the actual winding!

Hey thanks for the useful vid. I am wondering though, why rewind the entire pickup when you could just unwind one loop then reattach the wire the spool post? Thanks for your help
@groovemonkey73 Жыл бұрын
You are most welcome. The reason for rewinding the entire pickup, was because in my case a lot of them had corroded at both ends, so I would of needed to do the same at the winding start post, which of course you cannot do!

This video is what i was looking for 2 days long now... (Not that much people talking about it actually !) I have half my pickups down and looking for a solution without have my entire bank account in debt...thinking to get new wires on the internet to make each pickup over from it. I only know the 180 ohms they should have... dont know which pole N/S my 73 pickups should have, how to propely remagnetize ?
@groovemonkey732 жыл бұрын
Exactly why I did the same. Simply couldn't afford to replace all the dead ones with new. The magnets shouldn't need re-magnetizing?
@gauthiersoubirous27062 жыл бұрын
@@groovemonkey73 i checked each magnet orientation and they are all the same so i think it is good. I will receive an unwinder machine -hum.. from china- at the end of the mounth and i made a 3D printed part so that the pickup can be plugged in and turn freely as you did here.

Nice video, there aren't any videos of Nord showing the actions of their keybeds like other brands do, now I see why, It's dissapointing to see that such a high priced keyboard has plastic action, for the same price you can get a Kawai MP11SE with wood keys and a grand piano action, or for less price than the NS3 you can a get a Yamaha CP88 also with wood keys. Korg has the RH3 action all plastic, and the SV2 is a lot lower in the price range... I think I'll go for the SV2 73 keys. I guess with Nord the extra price is for their sound samples...

nice job ! how to measure the length of the wire for the appropriate pick up resistance !?
@groovemonkey733 жыл бұрын
Thanks! For mine I was using the old wire, so I didn't need to worry about the length for the resistance, but if I was winding on new wire, I probably would of used some sort of laser revolution counter. Quite cheap to pick up on places like Ebay etc.

There isn't much actual physical 'stuff' inside of them, but in my opinion their sound engines/technology/software/sampling capabilities, denote that they don't need tonnes of hardware. The biggest thing that let Nord down is their keybeds, especially in the weighted variety. They never really got it, hence why they use a Kawai keybed in the Nord Grand.
