Robbie Coltrane also played Dr Johnson in Blackadder III. He does seem well suited to the role.

Would you still happen to have the full uncut interview with Jonathan Glazer? Or at least the specific episode info for this segemnt? Been trying to find the whole interview for a while now.

What a treat! This was when the BBC produced programmes that were worth watching. Many thanks for the upload.

My theory of what this stone hole is: it was the iron age drunk tank. For the tipplers who drank too much in fear of the Faries. 😉

Almost mind-blowing to see just what highbrow content Channel 4 were showing in that age compared to the continuous reality guff of nowadays.

It is from the first film. Originally broadcast in 1973. "Sir Mortimer: Digging Up People" BBC Two Mon 26th Mar 1973, 22:10 "Our greatest living archaeologist Sir Mortimer Wheeler returns to the screen in the first of two Chronicle films which take us on a journey through his extraordinary and eventful life. Sir Mortimer has gained the highest honours in three separate roles: as archaeologist, soldier and popular television personality. Now, in his 83rd year, he takes Magnus Magnusson back to the landmarks in the first half of his life: from the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917 to the Battle of Maiden Castle, fought and lost by a British tribe almost 2,000 years ago." He died 3 years later.

I am not a great fan of too many cameras and over editing, especially when dancers legs are chopped off (so to speak), nevertheless this was fascinating, with marvellous performances, and is a worthy addition to the list of productions of Romeo and Juliet. Thank you for posting.

Thanks for uploading this wonderful compilation video. For me this was quite the trip down memory lane, as back then I used to watch the show every week, with the wine tasting being my favourite bit. In fact, for the last 30 years I have been trying to trace this episode where Jilly Goolden shouts something hilarious like "MANGO!!! And I haven't even tasted it yet". You don't happen to have this footage, do you? 🙂

The King has always championed Highland Culture, language, music and the wearing of kilts. A huge pity neither of his sons followed in his footsteps. Very interesting documentary and very enjoyable to watch. 👍

Wow! I was born and brought up with Butlins until I was 19. I never, ever heard of this prossy racket. Not even heard it mentioned. My Dad is the most amazing man Rocky Mason, who appears in this video several times. Dad worked for the company for almost 40 years. God Bless you Dad, and of course you Sir Billy 🙏🏼🥰🙏🏼 Thank you for my most amazing informative years. I wouldn’t swap it for the world. X ❤

Wow, what a breath of fresh air this show is. Wish modern archaeologists had half his passion wit and imagination. They are more like woke minded lab dream killers now a days, making everything dry and unmagical. Anyway, vive Mortimer and Magnus.
