Hi Michele - It's Kath, and for whatever reason the comment is not publishing, so I'll try it under John's name. Here goes: So, this is something I stumbled on to about just a month or so ago - I was showing John a photo I had taken of him holding something, and I happened to “push” on the photo, and all of a sudden there was this activity of a “light” zooming around the outline of him holding whatever it was (I think it was the Patagonia jacket) - and then I was given the option to save it. Lo and behold, it had saved JUST the picture of him, completely removing the entire background. Talk about an “aha moment!”I looked it up, and it’s something called a “lift” function - both in Androids and iPhones. I realized I could then put THAT onto a plain background without a “busy” background, and that this would also help make the words on the thumbnail stand out a bit better. The program I use for the thumbnails is Canva.com (just the free version for now). I usually start with choosing a background (I’m becoming fond of the blue gradient), and then upload a few related photos and create from there. As you probably have guessed, John is a very straight-forward, no nonsense guy, and he doesn’t like “fluff.” So I keep the fonts bold and straight-forward as well, and as easy to read as possible. One of the things I’ve learned about thumbnails is that they should convey (as close as possible) the message or topic your video addresses. Another thing I learned some years ago is to put descriptive info into the meta data of jpgs as well (there is a place in the jpg’s properties to put title, subtitle, tags, and a very short description). Whether or not that is still recommended, I don’t know, but I do it anyway. Anyway, I hope this helps! (BTW: I saved this to a document this time in case the comment doesn’t load again LOL!). :) Kath

Any tips on shipping the clubs?
@JohnsYardSaleFinds14 күн бұрын
Hi Michele - how many do you have? The problem these days is the old packaging I used to use for Priority Mail - 6x6x36 (or 38?) triangular boxes have gone absolutely nuts in price for shipping those. So, I've been using my own boxes that I order: 4x4x36 - sometimes have to extend one by sliding a piece of another one over it - and then shipping it USPS Ground Advantage, or UPS Ground. Most of the time that's WAY cheaper than Priority. If you can ship more than one in a single package to a buyer all the better. Like right now I have 4 irons in one 4x4x36 box that I'll have to extend slightly. But I also have a big headed driver that I CAN'T fit in one of those boxes. The big drivers can be kind of a pain because you almost have to get a 6x6x36+ in order to get it into a box (unless I use one of those Priority boxes, which can be crazy expensive to send). Not sure how others do it. A lot of these are just going to the flea market, but I do have a few drivers listed, so we'll see how it goes! I can also just "frankenbox" it (which is building a custom box to fit whatever you need!). Shipping golf clubs isn't a cut & dry situation, but I hope this helps!

It amazes me what folks will throw away! Me and my partner collect a very specific item, that most would consider junk once it has been used up and no longer holds air. What I'm referring to is, old rubber soccer balls, especially the ones used by schools and/or were used in soccer games in the 1970s. To most, soccer balls in general are disposable items, once they are all worn out and flat, but not to us. See, in the 1970s, not all rubber soccer ball were the same. There were at least 5-6 different types of rubber composites, possibly even more. The most notable were the PVC and PU rubber types. Most rubber soccer balls made in the 1970s, were actually designed to be used in soccer games. Some had a thick rubber carcass, while others had a thinner rubber carcass. Some had a latex bladder, while others had a butyl bladder. Some had a 2-ply wound of nylon, while other had 4 ply of nylon wound. The combinations were vast. Depending on the application or what the ball was going to be used for, "you could" order it through the mail, but most were just bought through department store catalogs. We are looking for the most worn, beat up, rubber soccer balls we can find out there. We do not care if they hold air or not. Sometimes, these old soccer balls do end up at yard sales, but nobody wants them, because they are flat and badly worn, so sadly, they get tossed out. We would pay a very generous price for such a vintage ball, if anyone had one that was used in soccer games in the 1970s and it is "full size". The older the ball is, and the more it was used in soccer games, the more it can be worth.

Hi Rafa, we are going to list some on eBay - actually already sold a few items on eBay, and will sell more on eBay - but for some of this higher end stuff, we're happy to have Heritage Auctions putting it in front of their customer base, which is different at some level from the eBay clientele. So far so good with them, and we just sent them a list of another lot of things we would like them to sell for us. Thank you for sharing your videos. I wanted to ask do you need a vendor license to sell at the flea market? And when do you need a license for vending? Thank you your time and suggestions. Looking forward to your videos.
@JohnsYardSaleFindsАй бұрын
Hi Teresa, Thanks so much for watching! Rules regarding licenses are likely to vary from state to state and town to town. Whoever the manager is for each flea market can help answer questions specific to that market. Also, each flea market is going to have rules about what you can or cannot sell. Some examples of where to start (I'm using our area in Florida as an example) include the flea market's website (e.g., this one in Deland, FL: volusiacountyfarmbureau.org/?page_id=12 or this very large one in Webster, FL: websterwestsidefleamarket.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/webster-seller-rules-5-24-24.pdf), your local department of revenue (e.g. this one for the Florida Department of Revenue: floridarevenue.com/taxes/taxesfees/Pages/annual_resale_certificate_sut.aspx), etc. We don't set up as a regular vendor at any of the flea markets; rather, we use them occasionally, more like a yard sale venue for us to help move inventory since it is easier for us than setting up a yard sale. But we still can't bring just anything to the one we set up at, because it also has some rules. One example is that at the market we set up at, if we had an old laptop computer, we couldn't sell it because one long-term vendor has an exclusive arrangement to sell computers. Just check with your local market before you decide what to bring, and whether or not you'll need a special license. I hope this is helpful, and gives you a place to start. Thank you for watching, and for your comment!
