Fun fact : You showed a Leopard 2A6 whilst talking about the Leopard 2A4., another fun fact. The Leopard 2A4 proved to be too heavy and too lightly armored for the conflict. It cannot survive a first hit from the Russian 125mm 2A46M model 5 used by the T-72B3(M) / T-90M / T-80BVM. Basically it cannot survive a first hit even from the frontal armor by any of the Russia's currently fielded mainstay tanks. In comparison the gun used on the German Leopard 2A6 the 120mm L55 smoothbore is NOT capable of defeating the Russian T-72B3 frontal armor from mid or long range. The Same is for the Abrams L44 gun. It cannot defeat the T-72B3's frontal armor from medium to long ranges. I am not quite sure where you got your Challenger 2 record that it made an impact in the war. Since it isn't liked because of its poor mobility and its gun is insufficient to do direct tank vs tank engagements on longer ranges. And since the environments it is being used it are mainly mostly flat terrains the engagements are mostly medium to long distances. And that's where the Western tanks are hopelessly failing at this moment.

The best tank is one that can be used quickly and effectively by the army. Armor thickness, electronics, engine - have secondary roles if the tank is not on the battlefield or if the crew cannot use it effectively. Abrans, Leopards and Challengers are good tanks, but in this conflict they are in short supply and delivered late. Half of the tanks donated to Ukraine by the allies are Polish PT-91 Twardy tanks (30 in 2022 and 60 in 2023) and T-72M(R) and T-72M1(R) (about 300 tanks). These tanks were donated from the first days of the war. They could be immediately used on the battlefield, because their designs are very similar to those previously known by Ukrainian tankers.

I'm not a military person (never held a gun in my hand, etc). But seem to me tanks are pretty vulnerable in Ukraine. They are supposed to be mean machines noone can hurt but a simple 100 dollar drone can take it out from far away, so can other anti-tank missiles held by a single guy, etc. Tanks were king in WW2 but I doubt they are that great anymore, but it all depend on the context, in specific situations they might shine again I guess. Today drones and missiles are kings of war. Not tanks, artillary or jets.

Fun fact it was the Challenger 1 not Challenger 2 that made the world record shot. Also you forgot the Leopard 2A6 which you showed but was talking about the Leopard 2A4. I think the T80BVM and T90M should have got a mention being better than the standard T72.
