I'd like to recreate the PD - I think it'd be fun to attempt. I've got a clear PD... so would you recommend that I dye the whole thing yellow, and THEN half red? Or just try half and half?
@twocrowsknows2811

It won't quite work if you're gonna dip it in RIT dye. The reason the red pops and you can get the fade is because the disc was originally yellow.

Not unless it is the idye poly. If it doesn't say poly it won't dye the acrilic and it will suck. If it is poly just add it to the water a couple seconds before it boils stir it up and turn it off when you see the colored foam

It all started back in late 2010 when I purchased the two c-line PDs. At that time Discmania had not started making them yet and they were a pre first run tournament disc for the Asia Open. I tried to throw one and immediately it was waaay more over stable than I thought it would be so I jokingly said I'm gonna give it to Simon Lizotte because he's the only one that could throw it. It stayed as a joke for years until 2020 when my friend Mikey went to WACO. I gave him both PDs and told him if he got a chance get Simon to sign my thrower and give him the other new one. Simon went home as soon as the tournament was over and Mikey ended up giving the new one to Nate Perkins and told him to pass it on to Simon. This is why Simon says he doesn't know who gave it to him it just came from a fan. As for the dye, I have been doing this since 09 or so and I always knew if I could get this disc in Simons hands and the world saw it and how cool it was it would catch on. Now my plan has come full circle. I often throw a firebird that is dyed the same and people will see it and say " that's cool you copied the one Simon Lizotte has" not knowing they are talking to the guy that dyed it. So to anyone that wants to knock it and say I'm trash just realize I'm just a normal person that had a dream and made it happen. Keep on dreaming as Eagle would say and a brisk high five to all my friends out there. Chop dye the world!

What's your go to Dye? And what mix solutions have you done? I've tried Pro-Chem and acetone mix and it has ruined my discs. Makes the dyed side of the disc concave and almost unusable to the point of making them really understable, and maybe not even PDGA legal. After seeing your dye job on Simon's disc I've tried many variations of it and love it. Watching them fly is amazing. I've only had one "successful" run of it on Champ Roc3 where I only dyed the top. I'll try your heating pot method just need to know how to mix it.

@@dylangreyeagle3528 I only used acetone to remove stamps even then I wipe it on and off in seconds. Glad you found my video helpful 👍

Here's my pro tip: don't use a pot, use a metal bowl(that is similar in width to a disc) and set that on top of a pot like a double boiler. The rounded edges of a bowl versus a straight sided pot mean that you can use less volume of dye and have it reach higher on the disc. I am building up a collection of different colors of hot dips and can't store massive amounts of liquid, so figuring out how to do it with less volume has been one of my objectives. I keep quart jars of the dye, I pour the dye into the bowl, and then I put a jar into the middle of the bowl to displace some of the dye and again raise the level. If I need to raise it even more I can put a ziploc bag of water in the back half of the bowl to displace even more dye, that gets me up to nearly the middle of the disc with just a liter of dye to make and store.
