My problem was that I wanted to copy Sinner's forehand and he does lots of wobbling with his forehand and wrist when he bring the racquet down and as he starts to accelerate forward. He is using his forehand as a whip, which can produce awesome power and racquet lag but can be a bit erratic for an amateur. My forehand is a lot more consistent if I use mostly my shoulder to drive the ball and skip the forehand initiated whip as the racquet face can easily open up too much if you do that.

my question would be, at what angles should the racquet closed?

Anybody below ntrp 3.5 should probably avoid this advice, it will only complicate your task, get all the time you can I would say.

Thanks Tom! This serve ,at club level , confuses lot of my team members including me specially if aiming near the tee. It will bounce right up to the body. I enjoyed it a lot!

Coach Tom, what is the key to getting the slice to land on the line *AND* short in the service box? Once in a while, I will hit a slice wide on the line and it also lands short, around the middle of the service box, or even shorter. The serve will have pace and kick wide. Can't remember how high the net clearance was. It might have had high net clearance like a regular deep slice and then suddenly dipped short. Not sure..... What is the key to making the slice land short? Is it a matter of aiming lower over the net? 🤔 :tennis:

I just watched this video again and I have to say this….this teacher is TOTALLY AWESOME! I love how he breaks everything down to make it simple for us to get; uses manipulatives to help us visualize his lesson, and of course the slow motion videos are priceless. I can’t say enough good things about this “young fellow” and I promise everyone reading, not only is he not a relative of mine, but we have never met. Okay, I said enough…..cheers.

Good analysis. He’s getting the knee bend bit coming from the angle of squat position. It’s almost as if his upper back is sliding down a wall begins him. Most club players squat up and down and that is a killer. Cilic has such a pretty game and I’ve heard he’s very nice too

Good instruction but that service pretty easy return because it was so short. The one I'm having problem with being a one-hander is a very little ball up the tee. Any suggestions

Hi, just started tennis here :). Quick question, for forehand or backhand strokes, do i step in with back leg after contact from sideway position so i get to ready position faster? Thanks. Yup sometimes I also come off the ground naturally and I don't really think about it 😎

I love this video. Can't wait to try this advice. I'm always trying to flick my wrist over the ball during contact. No wrist motion until the ball is gone makes perfect sense to me. Now to try get control of my brain lol. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for shooting video from the right side of the baseline. It amazes me how the ball goes towards the left side from 5:06 to 5:07 because our wrist/arm is going left to right.

Thank you Tom, these are great tips. I noticed that index knuckle and heelpad on #2 is also a forehand grip. Would you recommend using that same grip for both one-handed backhand and forehand?
@Ctwacademy2 жыл бұрын
#2 is a continental grip... yes you could hit forehand and backhand with continental but it's more suited to hitting flat or underspin (slice) NOT TOPSPIN. To your tennis success, Tom
@Benson_Bear Жыл бұрын
@@Ctwacademy I think you two are misscommunicating by referring to different bevels as as #2. I think Yehoon is referring to the bevel one counterclockwise from the top bevel (which you have also labelled #2, as well the bevel one clockwise from the top bevel). In other words, the more extreme of the topspin grips for backhand, commonly called semi-western. So what Yehoon is noting, I think,is that this very same grip is actually also the semi-western forehand grip, if you were to turn the racquet around without moving your hand at all and use the same side of the strings for forehand and backhand. I think this is mostly just a curiosity, because one usually has plenty of time to rotate the racquet with the left hand to adjust the grip as needed. Better to keep the grips completely separate so fine adjustments can be made. (Actually in table tennis I use the same grip on both sides, since there is little time to change the grip and it enables me to choose at last instant whether to use forehand or backhand without adjusting grip. Yes I know this is "wrong" although it amounts to a version of the Seemuiler grip)
