What we need is a proper book or webpage showing all the places in South Africa where we can Pareglide. GPS co-ordinates for both launch and landing sites, places to stay, club names and contacts.

Hello, congratulation from Bulgaria! :) You can try to fly in Montana, there is two mounts! The first mount is Pastrina with NW wind is the best direction. His altitude is 561m. The second mount is near village Dolna Verenitza, his name is Goloto bardo (Verenishkoto bardo), with N, NE, E wind direction. His altitude is also 561m, like mount Pastrina. The better flight is N wind direction.

Every time I see a paragliding video I get all giddy. Damn this rain and cold weather for putting my training on hold. I've had two sled rides from the big hill but haven't flown in a thermal yet. Will have my PG-2 this spring as soon as training restarts. Grasses and plastic bags sound like they are coming up from dust-devils.

I'm really interested in taking a couple of months to fly in SA, specially Cape Town. What is the best time of year to go there for flying? Are there suitable launch sites for beginners? Thanks for sharing the footage :)

What if the brake could be engaged by say the left knee? that way the operator would not need to let go of anything in his hands, just press a knee in.

Hi D yes it is possible. however those winches are normally fitted on towbars and it would be uncomfortable to get so low to the ground... these are very basic winches (they are no longer manufactured) and because of that they are rugged and easy to repair There are many winches on the market which have sophisticated ways of tensioning and retireval; however if they break on the field....u r stuck! ((-; cheers c

Wow, very scary. I am looking to get into paragliding, I'm aware of all the positives, but we must teach ourselves about the possible negatives also. Thus we watch crashes, to help Guage a persons reaction times to a wing collapse, the success rate of deploying a chute and having that chute put them on the ground safely. I am truly terrified now, but glad to see you say technology is much improved.
