My family has vacationed in Myrtle Beach for 60 years. The Yachtsman was built in 1971 when I was 8 years old. I begged my Dad if we could stay at this first high rise in Myrtle Beach. I had the most fun riding these, for the time, very modern and fast elevators. I thought they were coolest things ever. I would meet kids from other rooms and we would race the elevators to the top. It was also fun but very scary to run up and down those outdoor stairs. There were no bars blocking roof access then. The next year they built it's companion building and we stayed there as well. Much later they built the enclosed glass building in the middle. I thought that ruined it. I'm 61 now and will never forget the fun I had there riding those elevators.
