A lot of double meaning in this song, we know everything Meg does here is ‘Only For the Phantom’ to try and win his attention, but everything he does is ‘Only For Christine’…in fact you could argue Erik building all of Phantasma was only to make himself ‘worthy’ of Christine in his own mind. Their is also an interesting bird theme running throughout this show…Meg and her dancing girls are all dressed as birds but notice they have bird skulls on their head… this music isn’t alive for Erik it’s dead, Eriks inspiration is dead. But when Christine sings her big number she’s wearing a peacock themed gown and everything including the Stage is peacocked themed, everything is alive and beautiful again because Eriks got his songbird back, he’s got his inspiration back. ❤

One thing I love about the costuming for Christine here in this moment that doesn’t get mentioned is that. 1) She is wearing a white robe 2) Her hair is down. In this moment she looks like her old self again, as this moment is about Christine finding herself again. Here she is Christine Daae again, the Phantoms Muse, his Angel of Music, not the Vicomtesse de Chaney whom is forced to bottle up all her passions. And her going to the mirror and looking at herself as he slips that necklace on her is Erik basically saying “ We both know who you REALLY are my dear, time to let your true self out again.”
