I have one of these snare drums. The super star..with die cast on bottom Nd triple flanged on top..and its got plenty of reverb crack as well as bottom end...hmmm maybe its the weather..but i usually use a gregg keplinger 14x7 stainless steel..but this older model tama has bottom end also..and paid 250$ for it instead of gregg keplinger 1,200$.. but love the keplinger also

Batter on this drum was an Aquarian Modern Vintage, with a Remo Hazy snare side bottom. This drum has Angel hoops on it which are unavailable, but maybe try die-cast hoops to replicate the sound

How would you compare this to the 83 bell brass and the savage custom replica you featured awhile back? Would be interesting to hear the similarities and differences! Great video as always!
@westcoastdrumshopАй бұрын
'83 bell brass has a similar tone with additional low-end and slightly more out-of-tune vibe. The 3mm Savages have a similar low-end with a different tonatily. Hard to describe, but we will have a comparison video in the future

Fantastic playing. Were you playing the bass at all because I couldn't hear it. That's my biggest complaint about Tama. Their underwhelming (and difficult to hear) 30 degree bearing edge bass drums. Usually Birch bass drums have a loud attack, heck crack that cuts through the mix.

Those die cast hoops are warped beyond belief. Hate it when this happens. Thinner die cast oddly enough are not ideal for high tension.

So I have the superstar classic and I can’t find that sound in it. I think I might need to tighten my batter head. Currently using a Evans 300 snare side and back and forth on the batter Evans reverse power dot sound shaping and Evans coated HD dry. I might just be chasing a sound that is not there. But I like the sound of the one in this video. But the vintage birch is very nice. And technique is phenomenal. Makes me want to get my pad out and practice my sticking.

Crank the bottom head, then get the wires set. That will help you get closer to the sound in this video. Also, there's a free snare tuning video on our channel that explains how I tune
