Thanks to this family for providing access to the performance for all of us! What a gift, as I listen to it on New Year's Day, 2025. Charlie would be joyful that his memory lives.

The real beauty is at 55:00 minutes for the main musical theme. One of the best Symphonies of all times, when Beethoven was completely deaf and totally lost his sense of hearing.

This was breathtaking ❤❤ I’ve never seen or heard anything like this in its entirety and was moved to tears. I felt like I was hearing the beauty and magnificence of humanity. Then to top it off, it was created by a man that couldn’t hear it - STUNNING

I'm listening to this for the first time. Does someone know if Beethoven directed the orchestra or if someone else did it and he was behind the stage observing?

With all the prestige that the explosion of joy in the middle of the fourth movement has (and deserves), the fugal passage that precedes it (01:04:58) is usually forgotten despite being one of the greatest moments in the history of music. A recapitulation of anguish, difficulty and hope that precede the great moment of final happiness: it's poetic, instrumentally rich and absolutely beautiful. What a piece of art!

true, is so beautiful

It's kinda the best part, the anticipation of THE JOY, but instrumentally it's certainly the most beautiful part and reminiscent of the best section of the whole symphony imho which is the 2nd Movement, Scherzo

Was 4 minutes in. I'm like this is impossibly brilliant. I can't believe I've never actually listened to this. Was all about the 5th and (my personal favorite) the 7th. But, holy shit I guess he kinda did save the best for last. My mind is blown. I guess I kinda always looked at Beethoven like an eccentric, about town kinda guy. That just happened to have all of this music locked up inside of him. He just couldn't help but get it out, and share it with us mere mortals.
