Great way to hit 46. I guess the lean to allows you to trade tent space/weight in your packs for beer. ;) Took me three trips over three separate Octobers to complete the Dix Range. All 2-night trips (love camping up there). First was introducing two new hikers to the High Peaks. Macomb, South Dix, and Grace from camp near the Slide Brook Lean-to. Second was from the Boquet in late October when Big Game season was on. Dix only, also with a new hiker. Third time was Hough, with a second round of the lower three. I'm at 40 but probably won't finish until next year. Rehiking a few to let a friend catch up so we can finish together. A woman I know likens the High Peaks to childbirth. It takes a bit of time for selective memory to take over and block the painful parts of a trip, and soon enough the next trip is in the schedule!

All I can say is WOW!!! You guys are amazing!! I have long known about a western entry into Sand Lake but I didn't know there was an inviting bridge over the Oswegatchi to go along with it!! You got me psyched and I found it on Google Earth and tagged it!!! That was one LOONNGGG drive on the Bear Pond Road!!! I have looked at this for years and planned on a couple trips back through Watsons Triangle, one to the Great Corner and the other into Sand Lake. NEVER once did I ever dream about carrying a canoe too!!! Awesome trip guys!!! Jeff

Nice vid & loved it! As an avid canoer and familiar with the lakes you were on - how did you get back to your car at Tim River parking lot from Mag Lake? Great food and that's the way I roll when I camp too! It must've been tough carrying the burgs for the last night and keeping them frozen - not to mention carrying potatoes and oil!
@wildernessoutreach2

Thanks for the comment! We paid an outfitter to move the car from Tim River #2 to Magnetawan #3. First night steaks was a rare treat. No portages so it was easy. We cheated on the last night food. We knew that we would be camping on Magnetawan and our truck would be there so we left frozen burgers, potatoes, firewood, etc. in the truck and grabbed them on the way to our campsite. Love these trips. Always trying to make the most of what we can.

Nice attempt! I was fortunate enough to finish the 100 this year (44 hours). I probably passed you while you were sleeping near root run. You guys went out quick! I was probably right behind you in the beginning and when I started sweating a lot I just stopped and asked myself what the hell I was doing. It wasn't part of my plan to move that fast so I slowed down. I know you said you had blisters so for what its worth I wore thin Injinji Toe Socks and the Altra Olympus 4s. I was blister free for the entire event. Foot pain was unreal though - I don't think there is any way to prepare to be on your feet for that length of time. After a while I just stopped taking breaks because there was no point- it wouldn't stop the foot pain. That was also brutal that you guys didn't stay together. That last 22 miles I would've died to have someone to talk to and keep an eye on me as my sleep deprived ass hallucinated my way to the finish line. Hope you both try again and get it next year!
