"not a pro" tip: taking the car to an alkaline bath followed by an acid bath will remove all paint and undercoating, then remove all rust. It's then typically dipped into a rust encapsulator reaching every conceivable nook and cranny, giving you a very clean slate...

Just thrifted one for $2! Took a few Lysol wipes & some elbow grease but looks good as new! I’m working on saving up for an iPod Classic which is perfect for the dock. Just ordered a cheap aux cable to get me by for now. Planning to get a Bluetooth adapter for the aux port when I can. Found the remote on eBay for $7. Slowly but surely, I’ll get there. I love mine & for $2?! Very happy camper. 😊

@DR. Fixit, PLZ I need your advice for 2 questions before i purchase the same pack: 1- Is it true that SSD/ipod got super hot when using the ipod? 2- Did you try to install Rockbox on that SSD without any issue? Thank you
@DrFixit16 ай бұрын
1 - It can get warm but I do not notice it getting "hot" 2 - I think I remember trying to install rockbox but did not get it working. Luckily I did not brick the iPod but I did need to reformat the SSD and had to do that using an SSD to USB adapter.

I have a ipod video 30GB U2 special edition. I have put a msata adapter in the ipod with a 256GB SSD. I get the same message on ipod screen when i start it. And then on the screen Do not disconnect. But in windows 10 i see the ssd , i can format it and put files on the ssd. But in itunes i dont see the ipod at all. Do you have tips what this problem is ?
@DrFixit16 ай бұрын
Potential issues: 1. The cable is bad 2. Try iTunes on a different computer or better yet a mac 3. improper formatting of the SSD 4. defective msata adapter
@klaastuik14376 ай бұрын
Hello, I connected the iPod video to the PC again and nothing had changed. I started iTunes, but the iPod indicated that there was not enough power in the battery, and after half an hour the message suddenly appeared in iTunes that something was wrong and needed to be repaired. I've been waiting for this screen for a long time. Ipod repaired and it works again and sees the mSATA 256GB. But when I go to info on the iPod, it says "windows" at the bottom of the structure. Is this correct?

Sister had a Spitfire Mk2, what a cobbled piece of engineering! It ran pretty good but was scary to drive as the suspension was so loose. So my other sister tops her and buys a Fiat 850! Oh boy...both convertibles had wooden dashboards and you could get splinters from the bottom of them. The Fiat had wires spilling out from under the dash and it never ran 100%, she sold it 3 months later to her mechanic and saw it burning on side of freeway 2 weeks after that, true story. Im putting same carb on my Mazda pickup.

I'm glad you stuck with it. Not everybody has the will to work on mechanical things. You may want to replace that fuel filter and install the new one where the particles accumulate in the bowl where you can see it.

My Sister in Law has a red 1977 MGB. It has been sitting under her shed in Alabama for 40 plus years. She wrecked it. Some Yahoo pull out in front of her. Messed up the front. Took it to a shade tree mechanic. He screwed up the wiring. She, and her husband just park it. After so long They may want to sell it. Have not seen the car for 40 years myself. I would think it would be good for parts.

I enjoyed your video. It’s not easy getting a 40 something year old car to run again. I had a 72 MGB in college. It hasn’t run in 40 years and I am stepping way outside my comfort zone and have started the restoration project on it. Just started a KZbin channel called MaggiesMakeover to chronicle the journey. Should be fun. Good luck with your car!

Those stains must have been very recent, because if your brown water stains are old and completely dried and sunk in, you're screwed.

Thing about an MG clutch is that the throw out bearing doesn’t turn. When you press on or hold the clutch down, the stationary bearing is pressed against the clutch pressure plate which spins with the engine. When at a stop, the car should be in neutral with pedal unpressed. Clutch pedal should only be used to take off and switch gears. Also driving with your foot on the pedal wears the throw out bearing. I’ve changed a lot of clutches for people. Can remove the engine in about an hour now.😀 Have fun with that car. They are easy to work on and a blast to drive.

Gday - Brings back so many memories on my rolling restoration on my G including sill replacement and other patching. If you can somehow lift the carpet and apply POR 15 to both side then you'd stand a greater chance of longivity, as these cars tend to rust from the inside out. The POR15 works well except you have to ensure it does not see any sun as it is UV sensitive. I'd recommend you paint a top coat to protect it. Perhaps consider truck bed liner or the type. I agree the method you used to remove the underseal (scraper and heat gun) is the best method method I used. Labor intensive but works. I'm looking forward to your next installment!
@AaronG3032 жыл бұрын
also....I'd recommend you pull the heater unit out and look at the internals etc. I found if you dont have a clean drain port (look up "Toms Knob" - and thats MGB speak not porn!) Use wire coat hanger to clean that drain leg out because thers high probability the vent in front of your windshield is allowing ingress of rain water and the drain leg is blocked. Results with your footwell side vents allow the built up (undrained water) to spill onto the floor hence the rusting.

How goes the project?? I have a right-hand drive 1980 MGB that belonged to my father in Scotland. Was in great shape when I shipped it over to Canada, but sadly the interior was trashed by squirrels and it sat in a barn for too long. Hoping to one day convert it to an electric version. Any advice from anyone reading this would be much appreciated!
@jamesmacdonald30902 жыл бұрын
Nice little project. Don't know why some peeps say "get rid" as the MGB is such a simple car to work on and most parts are cheap? I have a GT and several Range Rovers.... plus Harleys so I get a lot of stick from "armchair critics" who heard from someone who heard from someone else etc.. etc.. In the US these little cars were never designed for route 66 travel so will always come up short against a yank tank, whereas here in the UK they are perfect for skipping around our country lanes.
