Thanks man that's a big help getting started in the right direction. A few tools and some work. Blows my mind someone covered up beautiful fir floors from 1927 with crappy 80's carpeting.

Looks fantastic! I actually liked it better without any stain around the 2:00 mark. Is there a way to keep that total natural look? Maybe just a clear coat instead of stain? Thanks!

This video claims NWFA, but what is said here is not according to NWFA. Eye level refers to surface imperfections. NWFA flatness spec is putting a 6' or 10' straight edge on the floor then checking the variance. For nail down 3/16" in 6' or 1/4" in 10' is allowed. For glue down it's 1/8" in 6' or 3/16" in 10'. The picture shown of the straight edge on the floor, shows the floor is out of spec. You can find the NWFA installation manual online and read it. Some hardwood manufacturers, for the link for installation instructions, provide a download of that manual. Plus manufacturer's warranty follows these same guidelines. They work with the NWFA to produce these specs.

Just found out there’s hardwood under my living room carpet & saw there were still staples in the floor. This video was so simple/clear & I’m confident that I’ll be able to pull them all out with ease!! Thank you!!

Thank you this is very helpful. I wanted to pull up the carpeting and wasn't sure what was underneath. I pulled a small piece away from the entryway and can see it was hardwood floors. I think I will do this project over the winter

jmack619 Hi Great article, ! We are doing a very small landing 4x3 feet, planning on using existing maple hardwood, and thinking of gluing to concrete, which is 38 years old . no moisture issues, and lots of extra hardwood if it messes up. would you glue it , cause I'm leaning that way . jm

My least favorite renovation job! In our current 1898 house carpet was put over old carpet and pad. So there's 50 year old carpet over 100 year old carpet and horsehair pad. It is a dirty, yucky job! but I learned a couple of new tricks from you. Thanks!

All my engineered flooring (Shaw) is bowing before being installed. RH is 20%. The floor is made to float and I'm wondering if I just glue it down it will fix the problem? Remote Alaska, so it's a pain to get new product. Thanks!

@Signaturecustomflooring

@@jmack619I still love Rubio. The type of finish I suggest to my clients depends on the species of wood, look they want, how they expect the floor to preform goes into the over all recommendations

@@Signaturecustomflooring thank you for your reply. I/We are redoing steps for our back entry. From the garage, there is a 4x8 landing ( we are using unfinished maple} than its 6 steps down to basement, or 6 steps up to kitchen living dining level . Only two of us, would rubio be a good choice for medium traffic ?
@Signaturecustomflooring
@Signaturecustomflooring Жыл бұрын
@@jmack619 if you are doing it yourself I wouldn't do Rubio. Sanding needs to be spot on and then the application and removal of it makes a diffence. It may also be to slippery. I'd go more with stain and bona antic-slip finish

Datedness is a distractor; Everything was too matchy matchy so the overall effect would have been mediocre even when the floor was new. I think your work addressed the problem without overcorrecting. Overall love the results.

If you are working in old houses, don’t remove anything. There are tons of filth behind the mouldings and it will drive you insane trying to clean it. Every time you vacuum along the edges, more gunk keeps coming out and getting into the finish.
