Thanks for posting this........I was there as they say....first visit to Le Mans....and i went back 2002, 2003 to see the Bentleys....(had a MkVI Bentley at that time)....drove all the way from Aberdeenshire Ecosse.....to Le Mans....nearly two days of driving and a fortune in fuel...but worth every penny for the experience......went back to a couple of classic races.....but not been now for many years.....watched it on the internet when available. 20023 and 2024....time to plan a return to Le Mans...but a lot looks like it has changed....it really was a beer and car fest back in 2001, 2002 and 2003.......i hear now the corporates have taken over sadly. why doesn't the BBC or terestri;a tv....show this in the UK....far more entertaining (imo) than F boring 1...... 2001 Le Mans ranged from damp to wet to monsoon the whole weekend....anybody can drive in the dry.....when it rains.....the chaff spin off.....:)

Funny that Panoz thought that design would work. Dr Don Panoz was great for creating ALMS, but they were up against a factory team, viz, Audi. That's tough.

Yes it was definitely more cinematographic, and for Moto GP and 24 hours motobikes they were actually almost jumping over the dunlop bump lol which was amazing, som cars as well, but to be honest Le Mans has always been evolving since 1923 almost every year so it's part of the spirit of Le Mans to change all the time if you get what I mean, my english is not perfect

such an era of engineering and motorsport. Still feel that this was THE era. I think we are slowly getting back to that stage of racing with the Hypercars nearing the same levels of Group C. still think they should change BOP and actually have a "go like hell" category where its unrestricted rules.

Huge thanks & kudos for posting this !!! I was crew on the 2nd Riley & Scott factory car. Faucett sponsored Eduardo Dibos (RIP) owned WSC. We ended the 12 hour sprint P3. Jimmy Pace (RIP) & Barry Waddell rounded out our trio. Never forget sitting in Chicane's restaurant and bar when Eduardo walks in with the 3rd place cup, fills it with champagne and drinks with the crew...great memories

I was just a kid very young final teenage year 19. No trouble with economy,beginning my accommodations, it was 3 months before 9/11, lived in New England back than could of wish Dale Sr could of ran Le Mans in the future but still pay respect of his horrible loss February 2001 at Daytona. That day this is when I create my stage nickname established Speedjponator3 23 years ago.

I love watching Le Mans every year for this - seeing all the manufacturers, constructors and privateers representing different the former with their unique outlook on how a race car should look to launch like a missile down the Mulsanne and handle in the corners around Le Mans. 34:13 - yes, no kidding, a very low rear wing, low drag, minimal downforce, of course it has high top end, also, has the ability to spin if pushed in racing conditions. Man, that Panoz was quick with David Brabham behind the wheel. Knowing what he was capable of in this car, seeing Brabham win with the Peugeot and almost win with the Bentley, it would have great if Brabham actually raced an Audi in the early 2000s he could have won alongside Kristensen.

28:55: It was discovered in later years that the two safety car situation caused cars in the second chain of cars to lose sometimes one or two minutes on the track to cars they were close to or ahead of because of the timing of pit stops. With no wave arounds, this created a deficit that could be made up. In 2022 or 2023, the FIA eliminated the 2 safety car system and implemented wave arounds so teams would not lose position and sometimes a lap through no fault of their own.

That was one of the coolest most ingenious things I’ve ever seen in motor racing. Hats off to Audi and Joest. Sad that it was outlawed
@germanenglishengineer2054
@germanenglishengineer2054 11 ай бұрын
yes, so brilliant! I love watching this for the history of it but I honestly agree it should be outlawed. The idea of endurance racing is that your equipment from the beginning of the race should finish the entire thing. If you have some minor components you need to change, you should individually change them but changing the entire assembly breaks the carnal rule of what this race means. So this thing, while brilliant and obviously a loophole in 2000 nowadays it's not legal. However, with IMSA and FIA WEC allowing the wave around allowing teams who are 1 lap down or 10 laps down come back around to the lead lap if given enough cautions, tell me which is more ridiculous from an endurance aspect. Obviously two things should go. Equivalence of Technology and Wave Arounds. Let the engineers and the competition do their job.

Ingenious for sure, but Le Mans 24 is a reliability war, changing 1/3 of the car was cheating. It was outlawed to prevent F1 performance car with poor of reliability and changing half the parts every 6h 😅
