I've been feeding our local birds for many years here in north Manchester. I'm seeing a slight increase in Sparrows recently (over the years the decline has been a worry though), Collard Doves, a community of Goldfinch has taken over and the odd pair of Bullfinches are seen regularly. I've seen Nuthatches and a pair of greenfinches visiting the feeders. Chaffinches are quite rare, but I have seen them. A sparrow hawk has even noticed the feeding frenzy and calls for lunch occasionally too. Amazing so close to town. I seem to be the only one putting out food locally, so I assume I'm seeing birds arriving from quite a distance away.

A project like this, carried out by competent people who care and educate others, is such an important piece in the huge puzzle of our fragmented landscape. Looking ahead and connecting habitats, bit by bit, gives me hope to believe that our situation can actually improve. Thank you for the work and for the skillful communication of it.

Well done, what a wonderful piece of Conservation, of working together with the land, River Clyde for the benefit of Nature and all the birds and animals that will thrive because of it. Bless it be our Mother Earth and all her creatures, may we all live in harmony. Peace. 😊😊😊❤❤❤🕊🐦🦆🦢🦉🐸🦫

Is it better to do bird watch after this weekends storm is over? Or carry on as normal?
@RSPBvideo2 күн бұрын
Hi Toni - we run the Big Garden Birdwatch on the last weekend of January every year so that our data is most comparable to previous years. We'd advise those affected by the storm to take part in the Big Garden Birdwatch when the intensity of the storm has died down. Currently, it looks like the Sunday will be the calmest day for most, but we'd recommend checking your local weather reports/warnings to ensure you stay safe during your count! We hope you're able to enjoy taking part, despite the weather. 😊

Looking forward to it, Why don't we see regular KZbin stories from RSPB England? We have many fantastic sites but don't get any media, when you live in the middle of the country and can't get to places like Titchwell, Arne, Bempton etc easily maybe just a few times a year but would love to see media like the great videos we get from RSPB Scotland, well done and keep it coming.

You may love it as we all do; but there has been a massive decline in the bird population in the UK, decades in the the making. I never saw that coming. In 1990 there was a genuine dawn chorus outside the window of my second floor council flat. 2024: it's mostly silent now.

Why do you have electronic music as background to your videos? Let's have the natural sounds of the reserve, please.
@jdryden85526 күн бұрын
Hi there. This is my local birdwatching patch, I’m also a volunteer at the reserve. Unfortunately because the reserve is a stones throw from the M74 motorway recording the sound of the reserve comes with challenges of not picking up the constant background drone of traffic. It’s much easier to block out with your ears when you’re physically at the reserve but anytime I’ve recorded clips the motorway is quite obtrusive.

Ah ha! This is a perfectly timed video for me☺️ During Big Garden Bird Watch this year I'll be somewhere that doesn't have much of a garden. I wanted to be sure that it would be fine to do it on the local common or by a local lake and this answered my question. Many thanks All☺️🐦⬛👍

Is there a standardized direction of the focus wheel, so that one direction always will focus on closer objects and the other direction always will focus on objects further away?

They seem like they do good work for the pools. I agree that Baron’s Hough’s not a good site at all. National habitats always have to change.

It's a shame that these videos always have to have the muzak wallpaper. It would be nice to just hear natural sounds.
@jdryden85526 күн бұрын
Unfortunately the natural sounds at the reserve include a lot of background noise from the M74 motorway.

Hello! I am from Germany and tried to fill out the form. It overtook the correct ZIP Code from me filling out my street and house number, but then wouldn‘t let me finish. Allegedly the zip is wrong. There seems to be a bug in the system. Cheers!
