I worked in a large piano and organ shop in Belfast. They had 3 Huskies. I learned to drive in one. The high rear floor hid most of the rear wheel arches so they could transport most models of electronic organ. They were fun to drive.

I never owned a Husky because I never found one I really wanted. I lived in the NW in the 60s and 70s and - if my memory is correct - Granada TV had a big fleet of blue Huskies. One Rootes garage told me that they were guaranteed 3 years for the company rather than the normal 12 months. Granada had metal covers made to go over the rear side window to convert the Husky to a van. When they reached the end of their life with Granada, you could spot them as they had 4 [?] slots where the side covers would been fixed.

Lovely to drive but servicing nightmare ,changing the two spark plugs and the belts takes hours because of limited access not for the fainted heart home mechanic.

It really is a pity about the Wankel. I had one in an early Mazda, the tiny R100. No Ferrari ever revved with the smoothness of that little engine. But despite Mazda's best efforts, they could never get the seals right and the resulting oil burning and poor fuel economy doomed the rotary from ever becoming a mainstream engine.

I know of no GS or GSA in the UK with VW engine components. The 1500cc VW engine only produced about 54 bhp - why bother when the GSA 1299cc engine produced 64 bhp?

Fantastic collection. I spotted at least a pair of GSAs Pallas that appealed to me so much. But whoever owns a GS, no matter the model, they can feel privileged of possessing such a unique car that has always broken the mold, both in the past and still nowadays. Greetings from a Spanish GS owner.
@citnut311 жыл бұрын
Despite the GS in particular being beautiful and very technically advanced, this does not mean they have been kept on the road. There are only 39 GSAs "On the road" in the UK according to DVLA data for the third quarter of 2012. The position for the GS is somewhat better at 52 taxed to be on the road. Fortunately the numbers have stabilised over the last few years but these are very small numbers when compared with the 14,000 or so Morris Minor variants that are licensed or 3,000 2CV variants.

There was a theory that the cooling fan on a Dyane gave a slight pressure boost to the air entering the air filter intake and made the car have more power!

Yes but it' a bit faster because the cleaner aerodynamics and more robust and practical as the 2cv with he's bigger tailgate...The design was by Robert Opron who make the AMI 8 and... the fabulous SM!

There are many prototypes in the slideshow: Urbain 2; Coccinelle, 4456 green Visa prototype that became the Oltcit; 4V engined DS is supercharged 2-stroke; 1960 driverless DS; Project L prototype CX [in white side view]; C-60 Ami replacement with raked back window; SM prototype in DS coupe body; Panhard DS; TPV - the 2CV prototype found hidden in a barn in 1995....and more!

@THEharperizer The 1129cc Special had 55 bhp @ 5,750 revs and 58 lbft of torque at 3,500 revs. The top speed when tested was in the mid 90s but one magazine wound the earlier GS with the same engine up to 108 mph in favourable conditions. The 0-60 time is about 16 secs as far as I can find out. If you travel in the back of the top luxury end Citroen C6 and then in the back of a GS/A, you will conclude that the ride is better in the GS/A.
@citnut312 жыл бұрын
@THEharperizer There is only one GSA 1.1 Special known to be on the road in the UK and a few GS models with the 1129cc engine. I have a GS Pallas and GSA taxed and both are superior to travel in to most modern cars.....but they will rust!

@Woolymatt The "How Many Left" website indicates that there are 50 GS models on the road in the UK and 36 GSAs at the end of 2011.

I was on the idea of having one of this unique cars again (can`t forget my GS, he saved my life with a blown left front tire I didn`t noticed what happened until I stopped to check) but the spare parts here in Argentina are very hard to get, not to mention specialist to fix that so I desisted to have one for now. I still look to this videos with nostalgy. Is it just me or they are really beautiful?

It's a great pity Citroen pulled out of the North American market when it did. These cars would have been very popular during the gas crunch of the early 70's when all Detroit had to offer was the Vega and the Pinto.

@sparkey1958 The gear change should have been very good and only require minimal movement of the lever if the two plastic rings supporting the rod to the rear are in good condition and the flexy link that connects the rod to the gearbox is also not worn. The flex link could be damaged by leaving the car parked in reverse gear too often and creating a twist in it. Well-kept Imps did not overheat.

takes me back! i had 3 of them at one time, the last one being about 10 years ago....i spent a year restoring it and spent loads [mostly from a imp guru in taunton england] for my missus as a run about....she did not like it! could not get on with the gear change ended up with a mini auto...but i loved it...went round bends like on rails and was extremely nippy [rebuilt the engine] and no, it never over heated. ended up flogging it on ebay....for loads less than i spent..

They rusted away.....but one or two are discovered each year in a wide range of condition. There are about 20 GSs and 40 GSAs on the road in the UK and this figure ties in with the 2007 MOT data that was published as a result of a Freedom of Information Act query on MOT data by the BBC.

I have one of each: the GS has a better, more comfortable ride than the GSA [but the GSA is super compared with most modern cars] and the 1222cc engine is very smooth in our GS. The GSA hatch is more practical than the GS saloon; the heating and ventilation is far superior on GSA with the central air vent and 3-speed fan. The GSA steering also seems heavier even though both are on the correct Michelin tyres.
