Why I prefer Pasadena? The people are classy. You wont find here the vulgarians who crowd the west side of L.A. ~~ The show-offs, the "Hollywoody-TYPES," (if you catch my drift...), stay away. I also like Protestant churches here and private schools w relig association. Yes, it's hot in summer, but the town is relaxed, friendly. NO GLITZ, which ruins a chunk of southern California !! Pasadena has refinement.

I'm curious about this: when I search videos about LA, it is very common people writing in the comment section that LA isn't a good place. If it is that bad, why those people keep living there?

sounds like your permitting issues were during COVID when things had to go thru LA Co. vs Pasadena. Our renovation last year and the permitting process was (knock on redwood) easy as pie / super fast.

Your videos have popped up on my recommendations. Nostalgic for me. I raised my daughters in the Annandale neighborhood. Upon the death of my husband I purchased a condo on Orange Grove. When we moved into our home near San Rafael elementary over 25 years ago a friend gifted me a cute historical book. Within the Vale of Annandale. It was created by a local scout troop for the locals mainly. We discovered our home was stable property for the Annandale Country Club back in the horse and carriage days. Thought you might be interested.

I am born a48 and raised in California. Traveled all 48 states of the US as a OTR truck driver. I can honestly say that California as a WHOLE, doesn't matter what city. Is the most garbage area you can live in. It's a literal communist state.

FYI, the freeway was built in the 70’s, not the 60’s. I left La Canada in 72 and the only thing that was finished was the cap over the freeway for Foothill Blvd near the elementary school and the Junior High.

Each of the listed eight reasons can apply to damn near every neighborhood in the Greater Los Angeles area. All of LA is overpriced and with the addition of ADUs neighborhood crowding is a growing fact of life. And the entire San Fernando Valley is one big "North or South" of the boulevard discussion. South of Ventura the houses cost more but the fire insurance is higher, north of the boulevard homes may be less but the traffic is a nightmare and temperatures are higher.

Can you live well in LA as a couple making 8-10k a month total? We really enjoyed visiting and stayed in weho and silver lake and loved it. Somebody told me that “normal” people can’t enjoy living there and you have to be rich to really enjoy it, is that true? I think it would depend on if you can find a decent apartment for 2.5k a month. We are considering moving to either Los Feliz or possibly Culver City/Mar Vista.

Grew up in the San Gabriel Valley and I'm wondering what you really are expecting here. Imagine saying Pasadena is not a good restaurant town. LMAO. There are definitely good restaurants in Pasadena. If you're bitching about Chinese and you're suggesting people go to Chinatown, how long have you actually been in LA? All the best Chinese is off the 10 in Monterey Park and Alhambra. SGV is ground zero. There are different ethnic enclaves all over the LA Basin for different types of foods. That having been said, you should be able to find almost anything you need and have a good quality somewhat nearby. C'mon, man. Back in the day we would go to where all the Cordon Bleu students hung out after class. Those were the good joints. Ask a few chefs. Also Santa Monica is 25 mi from Pasadena. An hour and a half? Why are you trying to go to the beach at rush hour? Most people won't be doing that. I drove it every weekend to see my boyfriend for a while and it would take like a half hour in the early morning. Maybe you're just trying to do some sort of reverse psychology to keep people away? 😂

So Greg was born in LA and Tim has lived here over 30 years. Restaurant quality I guess is a personal thing. We didn’t say Pasadena doesn’t have good restaurants. We just said there aren’t a ton of them. What would you consider to be the great restaurants of Pasadena? And I agree with you on Monterey Park - awesome Chinese food. I particularly like Cheng Du Taste!
